Hi Guys,
my present configuration

CPU - AMD Athlon64 3200+
Mobo -Sapphire RS480
GPU - None
PSU - CM xtreme Power 380W
HDD - WD 250 GB sata 2
Ram - 1 GB (DDR 400 Mhz)

In spite of some members advising against upgrading my PC
Read here : *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/pc-components-configurations/151002-pc-upgrade-dilema.html

Its very hard to let a system go, on which you have spent days modding and putting LEDs/fans on.
Any way, I want to give my system another chance by coupling it with either 5670 or 6670 based card.

Was about to order but then came across this thread HD 5670 + AMD Athlon 64 3700+?? - Graphics-Cards - Graphic-Displays
Looks like a Bios problem, also last released BIOS date of 2006 on sapphire website is not looking very encouraging.

So my question is will 5560/6670 coupled with my configuration work

I will be very thankful if some one who have tried similar configuration can confirm.

Also I am sure some of you guys must be having a 5670/6670 laying around. so if anyone is willing to lend me his old card for few hours so I can confirm before spending 5/6K. Dont worry a proper treat will be given in response, and if someone wants a reasonable monitory benefit that we can also discuss

i guess u have to change the
PSU before ur GPU go with a FSP Saga II 500w then with a 5670 or any
yet as for the gPU u can get a GTS 450 or a 6770 for 6.3k my will bottleneck u CPU u have to overclock it to min 3Ghz ish

Athlon 64 3200+ is a 939 pin single core processor which itself doesn't satisfy requirements for the current games. And yes, even HD 5670 might be a little bottleneck for the CPU. I think it is time to go for a new system.

go for some thing like a Athlon II X4 640 if available i guess Cilus u only told me the production is stop of athlon II ?
:offtopic:
it a bit difficult to upgrade if we go for a Phenom II X4 955 BE at min ? dont u think?

really get a new rig. Athlon II X4 + 740G or 780G board + 2Gb DDR3 + HD5670 will cost 10k only. you can always drop a used Phenom II X6 a year later and 4Gb stick.

also reuse your present cabinet. you'll retain all your modifications.

@Tarun, Cilus & Sam : Thanks a lot guys for your responses.

As far as upgrading is concerned, If I go for it I wont be able to stop myself tiil 10K or even 20K, coz then I will want everything In name of future proofing (bloody me ) and it will easily cross 30-35K.

Also retaining old cabinet is a good idea but that will leave my old mobo+CPU+ram virtually useless and will not fetch me even 2K in second hand market, other wise I can give system + my old crt monitor to some underprivileged, which of-course will be far more valuable.

So it looks like upgrading existing PC was a flop idea after all and setup will not work, and I will have to buy a god dam Xbox, which I am a bit hesitant as weekly gaming time would be just 3-4 hours

Neither me, but looking at all the circumstances and price diff of 30K(PC) to 14K(XBox), XBox is more viable choice.

Thanks for ur configuration If I decide to buy a new PC I will consult it and a fantastic thread posted by Jaskanwar Singh : *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/pc-components-configurations/150819-pc-buying-guide-2012-q1.html

Check out game prices on letsbuy and flipkart. XBox games are 3x to 5x the price of PC games in India. If you game regularly, you'll probably end up paying more for XBox games than for the console itself within a year or two.
