Is anyone using Dataone in Pune?
If I decide to go for BSNL Broadband (Dataone) connection...wish to know what all setup (equipment) is needed and how stable the connection is
If someone can give a quick info on the setup/reliability etc would be great.
Thx,

You don't need anything as a prerequisite, while applying just buy the modem from them. In Kolkata type I represents wired one and type II means wireless router for single users. Check it and buy according to your requirements.

Me in Poona and using DataOne on Huawei modem (outright purchase) since quite sometime. After dial-up, had gone in for Hathway unlimited connection. In a nutshell, it was one of the most horrible experiences of my life. Got rid of it in a month and got DataOne. Compared to Hathway, it was too good to be true!! Almost zero downtime and most of the time the speed is what is promised (256 kbps). There are times however when the speed does drop to some extent (usually in the day). Customer service is typically BSNL - Horrible! For example, you wont even be able to get POP3 account settings out of them without quite a bit of effort and shuttling pillar to post! But once you are set, you should hardly need customer service... but if for some reason you do, then.... good luck!!

So to answer your question, yes it has been quite reliable. As for equipment, you'd need only an ADSL modem, a splitter and wires. Just remember not to connect ANYTHING before the splitter.

All you need is a router, which can be purchased from them, or rented at a fee of Rs 30 per month. And you'll need at least a USB port to connect the modem to your PC. It's hassle free, after choosing your connection and type of router and such, they do all the installation work. It's reliable normally, but on rainy days, it's not. Speed of the line depends on the distance between your home and the telephone exchange. Customer service depends on your location. Some places, they're very friendly and helpful, other places, they don't even care to answer the phone.

At lest the Huawei comes with USB and Ethernet interface. So if you have a LAN port, you dont need a USB port. In fact LAN interface is better.

BSNL is providing two types of modems. type I and type II. type I requires configuration which you can do easily yourself. just search on google or in Bsnl website.
and type II costs Rs 1800.00 these are wireless and are auto configured.
so no problem go with BSNL.
