Numerous audio encoding technologies support 5.1 channel, including Dolby Surround, Dolby Digital and DTS.
Note: All 5.1 channel speaker system can't play Dolbydigital or DTS. For that speaker system should have Digital amplifier with Dolby & dts decoder facilities. Read the speaker system specification carefully.
5.1,6.1... these r basically for surround sound to give a home theater feel. u can buy it if you want to use it as home theater. for music alone 2.1 is OK
