CHIPMAKER Qualcomm announced six additions to its Snapdragon 200 processor lineup on Thursday for the budget smartphone market.
Qualcomm's six new processor chips for low-end smartphones will include both dual-core and quad-core variants fabbed on the firm's 28nm semiconductor technology.
Each Snapdragon 200 processor will boast built-in HSPA+ technology, Qualcomm said, and will support up to 8MP and 5MP rear and front-facing camera sensors a well as both single and dual SIM slots.
Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 200 chips will also feature an Adreno 302 GPU to offer a "graphics-rich gaming experience", Qualcomm's Quick Charge 1.0 technology, and support for the latest Android, Windows Phone and Firefox mobile operating systems. Qualcomm also said that the processors should deliver better mobile connections, faster data speeds and fewer dropped calls.
Jeff Lorbeck, SVP of product management at Qualcomm said, "With the expanded line of Snapdragon 200 processors, Qualcomm Technologies is building on its dual- and quad-core processor portfolio for entry-level smartphones and tablets, bringing key process technology and modem features to all Snapdragon tiers.
"We are excited to offer our customers the broadest range of 3G technologies and superior performance and power-efficiency, enabling them to deliver a wide range of innovative smartphones for the high-volume segment."
Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 200 processors will be available later this year, so we can expect some Qualcomm powered budget smartphones to crop up towards the end of the year.
While Qualcomm is focusing on the low-end market with its new Snapdragon 200 chips, it revealed earlier today that the firm's top-end Snapdragon 800 processor will feature in LG's next flagship Optimus G smartphone. µ

A very good news indeed for budget based smartphones + tablets users alike.

Friends,a trivial but important query:--->

Which one of the embedded systems is better than the other?

ARM or QUALCOMM ????

ARM or QUALCOMM ????

in a broad term, both are same. ARM developed the instruction set and a set of cores while Qualcomm licensed both the cores (entry level ones) and as well as the IS developing their own processing cores for high performance series (Scorpion and Krait). so calling one superior is not easy. both are same to me.

just that, you can't buy ARM cores as they don't manufacture any chipset.
