Problems with Y! messenger

I have yahoo messenger 8 and I have been using it for long time... but since yesterday I've been facing problems signing in. I installed 2 Firewalls yesterday, Zone Alarm and Armor2Net and none of the firewalls are blocking Y! Messenger... I also tried to change the Connection Preferences but nothing is working and I don't even know what Proxies are.. Plz Plz help me !

It sounds like the problem u r facing since u have installed the firewalls.

first remoove 1 of them & test msngr, if nothing happen then remoove the other 1. (remoove the entry from reg also)

use only zonalarm dude....n u want the firewall to block y!messenger or u wanna unblock it???

u don't need to bother about proxies since its u r using from home

I want to firewall to allow Y! messenger to send data but somehow Y! Messenger can't connect to the net (everything else works fine....) But it's not on the blocked programs list of ZoneAlarm... ?? I can't seem to figure out what the problem is ... I still cant get it to connect...

remove the other firewall...keep ZA..its always better to have only one Antivirus program and firewall on ur pc..or else conflicts will occur..go to ZA program control and make sure that the trust level of yahoo messenger is either trusted or super.

i removed both the firewalls, removed y! messenger, restarted my system a couple of times, then I went to *messenger.yahoo.com/ and tried to download the latest Yahoo Messenger 8.1 . After d/ling the .exe file, i executed it and it showed an error saying that my PC was unable to connect to the Y! servers and gave me a link to another y! messenger that's an 8 MB download... I am currently downloading that alternate Y! messenger... let's see what happens.. !

Update : I installed that alternate version too... but it gives a different error while signing in... sumthing like... "we are not able to connect you to Yahoo ! " and 3 options like "try again", "modem users" and "help"... I still can't get in... though y! mail works fine..

Check the Massanger - Preference - Connection - and use no proxy. If it not works then use no network detection.

Check your country as India.

If you just want to use massanger you can go to *wwwl.meebo.com/index-en.html

and use a web massanger from there.

I also tried Trillian but even it cannot connect me to the Y! network (

@ quiz master : I tried to connect using all of the 4 connection preferences but it still can't connect... Will I be able to chat to wid my Y! friends using Meebo ??

I uninstalled y! messenger 8.0 and installed version 7.0 but the problem persists.. I read it somewhere that y! messenger uses port 5050 for connecting, though I have uninstalled the firewalls how can I check if the port 5050 is blocked or not.. ?
