Problems in running some games

I have problems running some games like Borderlands, Hitman Contracts and Crisis 1 and 2 on my PC, but all these run fine on my Laptop. My laptop has the default Win 7 OS, but my PC has an upgraded 1 TB drive which was installed with Win 7 after the XP went bad. All the games' processes appear on the task manager, then the screen goes black, and then the game window disappears, also does its process. I suspect my PC is lacking a driver or some kind of "authentic" file that is causing all those games to not run on my PC. Please help by stating what can be the possible missing driver or file. Thanks in advance.

My PC is 3 year old HP Compaq Presario SG3630IL, with the following specifications:
Processor- Intel Pentium E2200
Motherboard- MS7525
RAM- 2 GB (Manual upgrade from 1 GB)
Graphics card- AMD Radeon 4670
HDD- 1 TB (Manual upgrade from 250 GB)
PSU- 180W (no make detail)
Two of my friends also have the same problem, those few games dont run on their assembles PCs, while they can play on their stock laptops. Also, other friends with a stock PC (bought from a manufacturer, havent changed PC's OS or hardware) can play that game. I think the games dont run on our assembled/modified PCs coz they lack a component or driver/file, while those with stock PCs have that missing component and hence can run them.

you are mistaken.this problem is most probably due to 32bit/64bit windows issue(many older games don't run correctly on 64bit without some tweaking) or activation issue(some game remember activation on a particular hardware).

My Win 7 is 32 bit. After installing borderlands on my laptop, my friend could still install and play on his stock PC. All the games have been installed multiple times, and they could not be played only on modified(os changed) and assembled PCs.

what os is being used on modified/assembled pc(version, service packs etc) & also does the assembled pc is updated with latest graphic drivers?also it needs DX9 & its updated version has to be installed separately on windows vista/7.do mention complete hardware specs of your pc(which failed to run game) & laptop/pc(on which game runs) next time.

My PC's specs are given in the 4th post, with win 7 sp1,.after changing from xp sp3. My friend's assembled pc has a 1st gen i3 processor, an asus motherboard, gtx 240, and 4 gb ram. We both cant play those games.
My laptop has the same pentium processor as my pc, with 2gb ram and integrated graphics, and also another friend has the same pc as mine, but with a gtx 220, and he never changed his os. The games can be played on both these machines.
All necessary drivers are kept upto date in all these pcs. My pc has dx9 installed separately, and so does all the other pcs.

remove GPU and try running. Game will surely fail to run but maybe some better errors than black screen that can be solved.

the only common thing in assembled configs of yours is a weak/local psu.try with some more demanding latest game & if same problem happens then most probably it is because of psu unable to provide sufficient power while gaming.even if it is not the case do read this to avoid any future much more costly damage than just black screen:

No no no, I think you guys got me wrong there. Games like BF3, NFS The Run, CoH and RE5 run easily at medium to high settings. The PSUs arent a problem imo. Its just that games like Borderlands, Hitman Contracts and Crisis 1 & 2 dont run- on opening the game application, the screen goes black like it normally does when a game starts, but then after a second the game window disappears. Happens only on the modified/assembled pcs.

see here.almost similar problem with Hitman Contracts & that too in 2004 & XP!
Hitman contracts problem!
some suggested & working solutions include turning off post filter in game video setting/installing older driver version/turning off sound hardware acceleration in soundblaster audio card setting(if you have one).
first check exactly which graphics driver version is installed on system which can successfully run this game & then install that exact same version instead of installing latest version.
