Problem With My Pc Please Help

I Recently Bought A Portable HardDisk Of 40gb Whose Speed is 480mbps and its USB2.0 Ready.
The Problem Is Whenever I attach the hardisk on my pc. My Pc Shutdowns By itself and not turning on till i remove the harddisk from the usb if i remove it. my pc works fine my windows also run as i again try to attach it the same problem starts and even my power doesn't gets on till the harddisk is plugged in my usb as i soon i unplug it then it works fine.

Pc Configuration
Mother Board : Asus P4P-800VM
Chipset : I865G
Proccessor : 2.4
4 usb ports(2 usb ports 2.0 compitable)
Hard Disk : 80gb
Cd Drives : Samsung Cdwirter And Sony Combo Drive
OS : Windows Xp Professional with Sp2

Please Help Me Out From this Please

remover and reinstall the usb drivers and if problem exists pls check the hdd with any other system

the problem is not with driver

its the cord or the connector on the casing which is faulty

this happen due to sorting of 1st and last pin
