Printer+Scanner or MFD Query

So i am gonna buy a Printer+Scanner, should i buy them seperately or buy a MFD(Multi-Function Device)?
Choice for MFD: HP PSC 1315,Cost: ~4.5k
Choice for Printer: Canon PIXMA iP1000 or HP Deskjet 3745: ~2.5k
Choice for Scanner:HP Scanjet 2400 or Canon Lide 20 : ~2.5k
Usage:Moderate printing Load,Rare Scanner use.Low Initial+Running Cost Priority!
Plz suggest alternatives,if there r any..

Pro's for MFD:
Although cost is nearly the same; only benefit is that it'll take up less space/compact.+ u get option 2buy extra 1yr Carepaq...(how much this costs anyways?)
& the Quality of the MFD is ~equal to seperate Printr+Scanner
Con's for MFD:
Something goes wrong, both Printr & Scnnr r gone!

Seperate stuff:
I lik the Canon Printer more than the HP, also it has 2yrs warranty.

I don't think space will be your problem

I'll suggest you go for separate printer and scanner. I am using HP 2300c(scanner) and 3550(Printer). Both the devices are now more that two yrs old and i have not faced any problem so far.

MFD's looks cool but even a driver reinstall will halt both the devices together.

So i'll suggest you for separate devices. Preferably both HP.

But the HP PSC 1315 looks SO cool!! he he!! & its Quality is equal to a discreet Printer or Scanner.. Thats the real dilemma..

Canon Pixma 1000 works great. I use it. Go for a Umax Scanner.

I would always prefer separate devices than a MFD. You have already listed the cons of using MFD.
