Right off the assembly line
Out of all the things, I found LINUX MINT the best thing on the disc. The best linux distro I hv ever used. Thanks for providing this.

Can I post a complaint here, you people just don't listen to complaints sent to help@jasubhai.com
I bought this month's issue of Digit from the local newsseller's shop and found that both the disks had got scratches and were not working properly. I found this error while trying to access them: Disk error , data redundancy check (well something like this, we get it when the files on the disk are corrupted or not readable). So, I want to ask how can I get these disks replaced? I faced this problem before in August and wrote to help@jasubhai.com and got this reply:

"

This mag needs techy writers who could add more descriptions, causes, effects of various settings on performance like in the gfx shootout instead of glossing over DX10 cards etc.As far as I am concerned the mag is just good for browsing the price of various electronics in the country.Have that view for a while now and I don't think it is gonna change soon.SAD.

Conclusion from previous posts:

01. Keep Up The Good Articles:D

02. Give fast track only on topics we can't find on the net easily:cool:

03. People like the fast tracks to be user guides of some cool stuff, like Java IDE, Python Programming, C++, Mingw Developer Studio(a competitor to MS Visual C++; free), Linux, BSD, etc. And basing the fast track on something that is paid is also not a good idea. It should be a window to a new and free world

04. In the DVD, use that extra space well.

(a).
Since Autopatcher is nomore, you may concider using the ware reviewed in :arrow:this link. Provide the ISO you created with it in digit.:))

(b). Give good eyecandy wallpapers and game trailers, along with full length movies, in the DVD. Please use x264 for video and AoTuV b5 vorbis for audio(in MKV Container) to give best quality at least size. Video should be ~600-700 kbps, audio should be Vorbis q4:cool:

(c). Give some REALLY BIG software or something which not all of us can download by ourselves.

(d). Give the softwares reviewed or talked about in digit in the DVD(free or demo versions):)

(e). If yoy can't find anything else, atleast allot 2 GB for linux. Linux is not all about ISOs.:(

(f). When giving live distros, please provide an app that automatically coppies only those files which are a part of the Distro's ISO to an ISO file in the computer. Its very useful if we want to make backup coppies of the distro.:|

(g). Wikibooks has several good books available in PDF format. Chose some really good books and give them in the DVD.;)

(h). The rest can be for the Demos and full software you usually provide.

05. Some people don't have DVD reading capability in their computers, there is no denying that. And usually it is they who also lack good hardware and internet access. Hence give the Ultra Essentials in the CD. These can include alzip, VLC, 7-zip, some small games, perhaps a lightweight game, avast antivirus, spybot:search&destroy, AD-Aware, and updates for the previous three.

06. ^^Otherwise, if you are the heartless type, you can use the CD for giving a single full CD item, like Visual Studio Express, A Linux Distro, etc. It must be a full software, and Must have proper artwork. You may also use it to give movies.

07.Who knows? you may even concider giving A dual layer DVD + another DVD. The manufacturing costs of a dvd is RS 9 afterall. Just devote the Single layer disc to linux, I am sure the digit community will appreciate that.

08. Most people with ability to play good games like bioshock will also have good internet connection. So don't bother giving a Small(in size) demo.

09. Give good PROPER free games, like OpenArena, Sauerbraten, Lincity-NG, etc. Why are all free games given in Digit crazy and childish?

10. Several good music artists(paid ones, not free ones) have freebies on their website. Ex: Metallica(their free vault is awssome), Megadeth(free music videos and mp3s of FULL LENGHT SONGS). Give them here.

11. There is a site called DrummerWorld.com, which has information about several drumers, and also several freebies, like live videos and MP3s. They are really awssome. They are legal too. Give them.

Gautham bhai ka kehna, jo teek, wahi dena.

Any Reply Moderators?

The_Devil_Himself

die blizzard die! D3?
Good work gautham I specially liked 3,7,9,10.
more free music please and instead of that CD start giving a DVD.

Any Reply Moderators?
lol.Moderators are no way related to the magazine gautham.Say 'Any reply Admins'.....But I am sure there won't be any reply.

I think there is some catch here... has anyone noticed, that for the past one year, the qualities of the mag and discs are inversely propotional to each other?

Gigacore

Dreamweaver
as far as i know. . . in 2003's the magazine contents were awesome! and during 2005's the media contents were superb and now in 2007 they are trying to make both the content superb . . . . but its still not accomplished :)

We intend to.

That's like saying you want to see water, but not the kind you get in the ocean. With a little determination, you can find anything on the Interntet - legally or otherwise. The purpose of Fast Track is to make information easy to digest.

We choose Fast Tracks that will appeal to a majority of our readers. We've already given one on Linux (which was well-received), but don't expect user manuals to Java IDEs. We've been toying with the idea of a Fast Track to Programming for a long time, and it'll likely be realised in a couple of months.

Duly noted. We don't get our movies in uncompressed format, you know. If the video quality is too low, we see whether the content makes up for it. Otherwise, we look for a different one.

Noted.

I take it you mean Linux software and not distros. Noted.

If you know of an app that does this, please tell me.

Everything ultra-essential is indeed on the CD. The section's called Essentials.

We have considered. Too expensive right now.

You say crazy and childish, some say fun. All about perspective.
The trouble with "PROPER" free games is that there are so few of them that are any good - when they are, we provide. Except for Lincity, I recall we gave all the names you mentioned here.

There's free, and there's free. The music you mention is free to download for personal use, but not for distribution. So we could download this music and tell you how good it is, but it's off-limits for DVD. We'll be sticking to CC-licensed music, except in special cases.
