The cover story is very well written; I think every parent should read that. But I think there could have been better ways to promote it on the cover page. Are you trying to lure the parents or the kids into buying this issue?

Ok, Fine I Am Giving Up Digit. I Have BEEN A ReadER For Three Years. But I Think Now Its Enough. What Were You Doing By Putting Up Those Three Letters In The Largest Possible Font In The Cover-- Stopping Porn Or Selling It. Do You Think We Are Fools. Are You Afraid Of Your Competitors. Your Standard Has Really Fallen Down. Shame On You Team Digit. Ok, I Am Leaving Digit And This Forum Forever. Bye, Hope You Dont Repeat That Again.

7 of the month has passed & no Digit. What the hell is wrong with this persons. Every month on 8th they dispatch a mail saying that delivery has been started late & u'll recieve a copy of digit by 10th. Now, this is very bullying attitude of Digit. Especially first they were dispatching it through Blue Dart which i used to get by 4th of every month, now they are dispatching it by AFL Wiz which means no digit till 10th. wake up man. or I'm heading towards stands when my subscription expires.

Problem with Digit Archive

The readme file provided with Digit Archive says its version 0.3b, but after installation I found its only ver 0.2b. Moreover, softwares given before Jan 06 and after July 2005 does not show in search result, i.e. the archive is not updated from July 2005 as said. Seems like you have provided the wrong version of Digit Archive on the CD.

Could you please upload the correct file to some file hosting server and give us the link?

Fast track to web-design is mainly for newbies. But it has missed out a few things that newbies will love.

  1. Free tools like NVu are not covered. How many really "buy" Frontpage or Dreamweaver? If people are given tips on NVu or Bluevoda or Yahoo Site Builder, they will be tempted to try them out.
  2. It would have really added value if a small list of free hosting providers would have been included.
  3. A few more tips and details on choosing the right hosts would have been better.
  4. Sites for getting free web-templates are not mentioned anywhere. A mention about some of them like FreeTemplates or Interspire would enhance the value.
  5. Only a 3/4 page on SEO really doesn't do any justice to the topic. Little more details would have been better.
  6. IMO, www.w3schools.com and www.w3c.org deserved a mention at the right places. The former is a hugh resource of knowledge for learning basics of lots of web-technologies.
As for domain names, it makes a mention about godaddy but not about DirectI which is an Indian entity with offices even in Mumbai. Although DirectI prices to direct sellers is on a higher side for a .com, it is one of the best one for registering .in (Indiatimes, Rediff, etc. suck big time, Net4Domains want you to pay for 5 yrs at a time).

Additionally, if domains are taken from a reseller of DirectI, prices can be better than GoDaddy!! Additionally, the interface that can be given to a domain registrant gives all facilities! So IMHO DirectI really should have found a mention, at least for .in domains.

finally got my hands on digit july 06 despite the 'sex scandal' ..... fast track to web design is AWESOME ..... i hope that the editors do take into consideration the displeasure expressed by the members of this forum to the cover page .... agreed it is an important issue for today's generation however there are various ways of highlighting these issues .... and this is 1 of them which should be avoided

@tuxfan: The newbie focus was conscious. Maybe we'll follow it up with an advanced design thing some time in the future. As for the rest of your points, I freely admit our boo boo; though we have covered choosing hosting in a previous issue of Digit (will have to check though - was waaay before I joined).

Incidentally, a few of us have had really bad experiences with resellers, so that probably wouldn't have featured anyway.

The movies provided with July issue is not running properly. When trying to run Elephant's etc. only sound could be heard, no video. I was running it in quicktime which was updated when prompted to do so. Kindly help.

It's a hi-definition movie (you'll need a slightly above average config to run that). Try using VLC Media Player or install the KaZaa Lite Mega Codec Pack (both are on the CD).

I think you have covered some points on hosting in the Fast Track on "Online Presence" a few months back. But they are far from comprehensive! I am sure you can't put everything. But here's one thing that you can put at the end of every chapter - Resources (links) for further reading.

As for resellers of DirectI, you haven't still tried me :D ;)

:D No man, not that, but I will give you names of at least 2 more people whom you can rely upon and they are reseller of directi. Here you go.

You already know Deep. He is one. Then there is one more fella from Kolkatta - Aloke. I think his name here is firewall. He is now a friend. Even he is reliable and is a reseller of directi. Just because a few are bad, doesn't mean all are bad. Even on its own right, DirectI should find a mention at least for .in domains! The rest all for .in suck big time.

I agree, it is an eyewash. It is neither intended for novice nor advanced users / publishers. If it is for newbies, I fail to understand, there is no mention of WYSIWYG Bebsite Builder from pablosoftwaresolutions. I bet no other softwares can be better and easy than this for novice users. Undue obsession with flash is unwarranted for and it is not possible to learn any such advanced capabilities through your fast track. Few days back I have opted for Web Design 2.0 for exchange of digit patron points. I found it to be totally useless. Because digit is just clearing crap stock of 2003.

Templates are the talks of day and plenty of them are available and millions of visual editors. Also there is nothing for Google Adsense ready sites. Designing site is onething [very easy] but optimizing for search engine, and other promotion tools would have been covered extensively.
