Not the same. In the US , its Walmart and Amazon policy. Whereas in Australia , companies have to offer by law. Hence many electronics are priced higher.The same is applicable to US also.
I have seen people returning opened items in Walmart & Amazon and the item was happily replaced or refunded with No questions asked.
