Portable HDD problem

Hey guys
I am having a peculiar problem. I am using win 7 ultimate as os on the desktop. I have a WD 320GB desktop HDD Blue edition. I decided to make it a external usb disk by using a casing so I bought a casing of a local manufacturer. But when I connected it to my PC, it worked fine for some hrs. and then gave me BSOD and computer restarted after dumping of the physical memory. After restarting the windows refused to start and I had to do reinserting of the ram. So I want to know what can be done about this problem. I can't do much tests on this pc as it is my father's working pc.
Will this casing work flawlessly on linux os?
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

^ er, what?

im using a cased drive, which is over 3 years old, and its working perfectly.

and i think its not a external hdd problem. check the RAM, PSU, etc.

does the PC boot without connecting the HDD?
Does the pc make any noises?

Why not ask him to provide more details, rather than demonizing a potentially innocent casing?

OP, provide more details.

does the PC boot without the casing?
does it make any sort of noise, o fans start up?
