Hi All,

I am planing to buy a Graphics card. Currently I have Asus K8VMVX MB with AMD Athlon 2800+, in future I might change my configuration(suppose to intel core2 duo something......).
So could you please suggest me a Graphics card that can work with both AMD as well as Intel :p

My current configuration is AMD Athlon 2800+ , Asus K8VMX, 256MB DDR1...

NO In my MB don't have any PCIe slot
does it have an AGP slot ?

and if you buy an AGP card now, you will have a hard time trying to use it on a new Core2 system because its motherboards all normally have only PCIe and PCI slots.

if you DO urgently need a card that can manage to serve you for light use till you buy a new system, I would suggest getting a second hand PCI(nVidia 5200) or AGP(nVidia 7300GT) card, but beware: the former can just help act as a half decent video card without much gaming capabilities, but can come to you for ~Rs. 600/- second hand. It can fit in future boards, but its weaker than most onboard graphics, so is of no use. The later is a decent low end card, but it costs ~3.5k first hand and ~1.5-2k second hand, and it can help with very light gaming but it will be worthless in your newer system.

What exactly do you need a graphics card for ? If you don plan on gaming, I think you can live with onboard. Just get more ram if you can. I have a setup extremely similar to yours, but a weaker CPU. Its P4 2.66GHz(which is weaker than athlon 2800), 256mb DDR1 400MHz ram(from one of the more expensive brands) and onboard audio/video from intel 915 chipset. I am able to manage with this system for most things, but for the ram. I think investing Rs. 1000 and buying 512mb ram is worth it.

Wire muncher!
This mobo has an 8x 1.5V AGP slot. You can try to find geforce 6200/6600/7200/7300 based cards. But be ready to pay extra for them as AGP cards are now outta the market.

BTW, the onboard VIA Unichrome gfx is too hopeless to do anything. So even a geforce 5700 is much more powerful than it...

IS it your mobo ?

It has one agp 8x slot - so you can go for either Pov 7300 GT or GeCube RX1600PRO Agp cards.

For gfx card : ^^ Isn't 9600 GT will be a better choice considering Low heat generation & low power consumption ?

e8200
Abit ip35 e
2GB 800 Mhz ddr2 Kingston or Transcendo or Corsair.

nah... low on performance.

Best card is MSI 8800GT OC Edition at 12k. I don't know whats up with parnaj suggesting oooold configurations everywhere, like E6300, E2140, XFX 8800GT, etc.

sir 9600gt is more efficient and can be overclocked better than 8800gt but at stock speed, 8800gt is better but u can't overclock it as much as u can do with 9600gt.
9600gt also runs better in sli

who said that? 8800GT is far the BEST card in NVIDIA's line-up. Its the best SLi solutin(not performance ONLY but affordable perfrmance). I have OC'd my 8800GT quite high.

As performance goes 8800GT is the best VFM card . Also it's OC capability is very well.

On the other hand 9600 Consumes less power & generates less heat but it's not vry suitable for High resolution gaming say above or 1024*768 or 1280*1024 ( Game wise ).

As for SLi best performer card there is only one - 9800GX2 :D
