1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
: Mostly watching HD movies along with everyday usage like listening music, web browsing, MS office applications. I am not an avid gamer but like to play NFS and other casual games occasionally.
2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
: Preferably under 20k-22k but ready to extend upto 25k-27k if worthy.
3. Planning to overclock?
: No
4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
5. How much hard drive space is needed?
: 1 TB
6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
: Already own a Samsung SyncMaster 22" LCD (1920 x 1080)
7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
: Will retain monitor, Microsoft mouse & keyboard, Creative 2.1 speakers
8. When are you planning to buy the system?
: In 1 or 2 weeks
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
: I would like to build myself if I can find any tutorial/help from a reliable source. Kindly let me know if available. Otherwise I will get it assembled.
10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
: Bangalore. Planning to visit SP road to find the stuffs myself. Ready to buy online if required.
11. Anything else which you would like to say?
: I have pretty much configured my system but have 2 questions for the experts. Also suggest me better alternatives, if any, for my configuration.
i) Pentium G2020 vs i3 3220 or i3 4130 - I want to know if Pentium G2020 is enough for my usage or should I go for an i3? Need to know this keeping in mind that I won't upgrade for next 3-5 years. There is a significant difference in price (almost 4k to 5k).
ii) Branded PSU vs. Built in PSU - Should I get a branded power supply or the built in PSU in the cabinet is sufficient? I am looking at Zebronics, iball or circle cabinets. Not sure how good the power supply will be in those cabinets.
Below is my build:
CPU: Intel Pentium G2020 (Or i3 3220/i3 4130)
MB: Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H for Ivy Bridge. Haven't decided yet for Haswell
RAM: 4GB, 1600 MHz - Corsair Vengeance DDR3 OR G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 (Suggest me which is better)
HDD: Western Digital Blue Caviar 1 Tb HDD
PSU: Corsair CX430 80+ Bronze Certified
Cabinet: Circle CT/Zebronics/iball cabinet or Cooler Master Elite 310/334u
Optical Drive: Asus / LG
UPS: APC 600V
