Broken In
My laptop has developed a strange problem. It doesn't start normally. When I try to start, the post screen remains for a longer time than normal. Then comes the option for XP start-up screen(safe mode/network/command prompt/last good confg)In any case the XP doesn't start. I am unable to boot from the CD even after selecting the first boot option from the CD. Then I tried the alternate option i.e boot from the USB flash drive. Then the XP started.I tried the CD media, it worked fine. Then I tried to format the HDD. Then the same thing happened.I am unable to boot from the optical media. Even I am unable to boot from the USB now. So I took out the pendrive and scanned with Norton(updated today), it was OK. I rescanned with CalmAV and it showed the following report

G:\bootcd\Floppy\Floppy.exe: Worm.VB-225 FOUNDG:\bootcd\CD\TESTDISK\TESTDISK.exe: Worm.VB-225 FOUNDG:\bootcd\CD\RPM\RPM.exe: Worm.VB-225 FOUNDG:\bootcd\CD\NTFS\NTFS.exe: Worm.VB-225 FOUNDG:\bootcd\CD\GHOST\GHOST.exe: Worm.VB-225 FOUNDG:\bootcd\CD\CD.exe: Worm.VB-225 FOUNDG:\bootcd\bootcd.exe: Worm.VB-225 FOUND

So I am now confirmed that my laptop is infected with Viruses and during the booting process it has infected the pendrive also.

I made my flash prepared by Hiren's method.During scanning of the XP PC where I made my flash prepared, the C/USB does not show virus, from that the copied files show the virus. How's that happened?

Well I can only tell you one thing, and that is that if Norton is your MAIN AV program, then that would go a LONG way towards explaining how you got infected in the first place!!!

I lol'ed at that ^^ +1

Seriously, Norton and symantec have gone to the dump. They were coveted antivirus solutions in the past, but they have improved(!?) to such an extent that running Bioshock in my computer takes less memory than Norton. I seriously suggest you consider other solutions like NOD32, which is a very good antivirus, and many people in the forum including me recommend that to anyone. The NOD32 reseller in India gives a 8% discount last time I checked.
