hey dude.....well i have a config to post, and really sorry for doing this, but i'm not able to post a new thread.
And this can help you too.

Someone please comment on this system
Gigabyte GA-MA785G-UD3H
AMD Phenom II X3 710 2.6GHz
2 x 2 Transcend / KIngston DDR2 800 MEM (or shud i go with 2 x 3 if i hav an Phenom II X3 proccy?) = 3k/4.5k
WD / seagate 7200.12 500gb HDD - 2.7k / 1TB = 4.2 k
zeborincs bijli with generic PSU - 2k (will it be enuff for phenom X3???)
LG DVD writer - 1.1k

Someone also please quote a price for the mobo and processor.

^Very good choice of proc and mobo! I dunno their price. You dont want to buy a GFX card, do you?

Change :
2x2GB Corsair XMS2 RAM @ 3k (Comes with heatsink)
1TB HDD (seagate/WD) or WD AAKS 2x640GB
Get Cooler Master Elite 334 @ 1.5-2k
Corsair VX450W (if u getting no GFX card) @ 4k
LG DVD writer is good! :)

dude. for 25k, you won't find Intel PC that could match AMD pc. anyways.

Go for E5200 + G45 based board and both should cost 8k

^Change desiibond's suggested config to:

Intel Dual Core E5200 @ 3.3k
Gigabyte G-31-ES2L @ 2.4k
Palit 9400GT or Sapphire HD4550 512MB GDDR3 @ 2.9K
All other parts are excellent recommendations.

I would recommend AMD as you can buy the mobo and save on the GFX as the onboard GFX rocks. Plus AMD is a better option for future upgrade. If you still want to stick to Intel, I have suggested the config above for you.

What exactly is your friend studying in 'Information Technology'?
Nowadays, almost every profession is 'IT'... even those not directly related to computers. And every config is only as good as the work it can do vis-a-vis what it is expected to do. So while deciding what to buy, one must consider budget as well as performance requirements. For example your friend may be studying Modelling and Animation (which is also 'IT') and no matter what you do, you cant get him a worthwhile rig for 25,000...

Anyway, if his requirement is a low spec, budget PC- why not buy a decent laptop? For your budget you can get one, maybe Acer or HCL which should easily meet basic computing requirements, plus he gets to carry it around...

All the best.

well, i'm not much into gaming and the mobo has a decent onboard graphics card.
well i'm on a tight budget actually.
Should be able to fit all of it in around 22-25k
so is corsair VX450W really necesary??

if you want to go for onboard graphics, you better go with AMD as 780G is pretty powerful and there is no answer from nvidia or Intel for 780G. Moreover, Phenom II X2 550 (price 5.5k) is the best sub 7k dual core processor and it even competes with E8200 that is around 8k right now.

anyways, it's your choice.

also, I too would recommend Corsair VX450W over el-cheapo PSUs
