Hi,

Please suggest the best configuration.
Below is the needed information:

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: The computer will be mainly used for home purposes for Internet browsing (Firefox, chrome), downloading (torrents, http, ftp), video chat (yahoo messenger, Skype, Gtalk), Music (iTunes, winamp), movies (vlc), Office Applications like MS Office. My brother also likes to occasionally play games like Quake3/Unreal, COD2, GTA Vice City.I wish the system to be still upgradeable with newer Processor, Graphics Card after maybe 2-3 years.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 18K or Below

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 or Linux(Redhat or Ubantu)

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 320 GB/500 GB is preferable

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No I already have 22” Samsung LCD Monitor purchase last year.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Plan to reuse my Webcam and Speakers respectively

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: In 7 – 8 days

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Will be done by an assembler

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: South Delhi. Yes would be buying from Nehru Place. Not sure about online store.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Kindly Suggest on the below:
1. Processor selected AMD A6-3650 or any specific in this AM range respectively.
2. Any issues in AMD Processors like in older days like noise and heating. Also how is the warranty/support of AMD in India not used before?
3. In regards to motherboard Gigabyte GA-880GM-D2H(rev 3.1) is good or any comparable in MSI etc. Does this Gigabyte motherboard support USB 3?
4. Suggest between Seagate 500GB HDD and against WDC.
5. Is external Power Supply like Corsair CX430V2 is required or we can do with the Power supply of Intex/Odyssy is good.
6. Suggest a good cabinet with good ventilation.
Kindly correct the prices on the below.
This is the configuration I have come around after the whole forum research.

Processor AMD A6-3650 6200
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-880GM-D2H(rev 3.1) 3600

A6-3650 goes in FM1 socket. 880GM-D2H is AM3+ socket. Incompatible.

And I honestly doubt whether "processor" will be upgradable 2-3 years from now. Just get the best you have currently.

Either Phenom II X4 840 + 880GM-D2H...................Or A6-3650 + A55M-S2H.

in your budget you can either get a 4 core llano with good enough graphics but not future upgradable or a phenom II quad core with only weak integrated graphics but future upgradable.also 3 yrs is a long time & who knows maybe after 3 yrs you could get a 6 core new generation processor & mobo for same price as an older generation 4/6 core processor.for your mentioned usages a 4 core llano will suffice for next 3 yrs & maybe even more.as for graphics card you can upgrade it any time as all it needs is a pci-e x16 slot which almost every mobo now-a-days has.

This was a really helpful thread. I'm also looking for a configuration in that budget with almost the same needs.
I just need a decent graphic card with the above configuration, within 3-4k.

Also, can I get to know any Intel alternatives for the above processor? I'm afraid AMD won't be available in Amritsar. (Just in case)

@sethaditya, also check if Phenom II X4 960T is available. You may try unlocking it. And go for 500Gb. 500gb can be had by paying 200-1000 more depending on the place you buy from.

@connoisseur, same config but add HD5670 512Mb/1Gb GDDR5 from Sapphire or HIS. Get these components from flipkart
