1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:
For Gaming. Games like Skyrim, BF3, COD MW3, GTA IV, Crysis 2

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:
20K strict, cannot extend

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:
No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:
Don't need hard drive, already have 500 + 160 GB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:
No. Have 17" Samsung LCD. Res: 1280 x 1024

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:
Already have Hard Drive, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers and PSU.
Want to buy: CPU, GPU, RAM and Motherboard.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:
In 1 or 2 weeks.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:
No, my first rig was built by assembler and will mostly get it done by him this time also.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:
Vadodara, Gujarat. Locally preferred but can buy online also if cash on delivery available.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:
So, as you can see, I have just 17" monitor with max resolution of 1280 x 1024, so suggest the GPU accordingly. And my PSU is of 450 watts.
Also, i don't want future-proofing, will be using this rig for 1 yr max, so all I want is the rig which can play the above mentioned games at max settings.

I went through the "pc buying guide" and Amd Phenom II x4 seems good enough, but can't decide other components... So, any and all suggestions are welcome...
And thanks in advance..

Please mention the complete model number of your psu, because a crap psu can be dangerous for other components. Go for the following:
Intel DH67CL @ 5k
Intel Core i3 2100 @ 6k
AMD Radeon hd 7750 @ 7k

Its a 5 year old PSU of tech-com. Model- PSP 4500 (450 watts). Input is 230V/50Hz/3A. Btw, am noob about psu, so do suggest the psu also if this psu cannot handle the gpu you suggested...

And also, isn't quad core cpu (amd phenom x4) better than dual core (i3 2100) when it comes to gaming?

That PSU will not work or can't be trusted with any good Graphics card. Better spend around 2.3K and get Corsair CX 430V2 PSU.

Also for gaming, Core i3 2100 performs better than even Phenom II X4 965. So i3 2100 is just fine for you.

Ok, so i3 2100 @6k and
Corsair CX 430V2 PSU @ 2.3k
what about gpu, mobo and ram?? the_conqueror's suggestions will be out of budget after addition of PSU, so any other suggestions?

hd6770 is not good enough for GTA4, even after overclocking to over 1GHz it cannot manage constant 40fps at good/high settings :|
but it is more than enough for MW3

Cilus

^^ Then you better buy separate Graphics cards for separate games.:-D

@ 1280 x 1024 resolution, HD 6770 is more than enough.

i have a saphire hd6770 (overclocked to 1000/1400 with pcie overclocled to 150MHz from 100MHz  ) and MW3 and GTA4,
but in gta 4 it can give 40 fps @1024x768 medium texture, but some time fps drops down to 20  , because GTA4 is not a well coded game, it uses over 50 threads but still can not use more than 50% of my cpu.
while MW3 is a well coded game that use around 50% my cpu and gpu @1920x1200 4xaa, every thing at extra and still i get constant 75fps in it, thus it is more than enough, but it doesn't mean to buy a card to play solitaire :|

so a better gpu is my recommendation (at least hd6850/7770)

dude. I played gta4 with my hd 4200 integrated graphics, albeit at low settings and at 640X480. but still, i played it on an igp. and at 1280X1024, a 6770 will run it smoothly don't worry. GTA4 is a bad port anyway and anything over 30 fps is considered playable.

 i played it on nforce6150se (IGP) (msi-k9n6pgm2-v)
@320x240 (using command-line) and everything at lowest possible just to get 5-10fps :-D

to get around 30 fps, then hd6770 is good choice :|

Jripper

Pro/An---tagonist xD
lol nice HD resolution mate xD
Yes thats what is being said. If on a budget and to get 30 fps at that resolution, a 6770 will do. But ofcourse, if budget is more a 6850 is always better. |m|
