i find Western Digital Customer Care Pathetic. i bought a wd 2tb blue on 25/11/2016. tried to register it multiple times but the site always generated error so sent an email to them. got a response next day asking about the drive serial number, sent it and on 30/11/2016 got an email that it is registered and the warranty is good till 29th Oct 2018. it also asked me to send A scan copy of the receipt of purchase bill and the six sides drive photograph along with the label in case i want to get warranty updated as per purchase bill.

one cc girl did a Copy-Paste - "Please be informed that this is the standard procedure we follow to update the warranty on the drive."

What sort of idiotic thing is that. seagate never asked for things like these (drive photographs) and i still remember i got a replacement in less than an hour for my 500gb hdd.

now to do this stupid charade, i opened the cabinet and took out the drive, photographed it and sent an email containg all the 6 side pics plus the bill again.

i have left the drive outside fearing these people might ask me to send a video of the drive and might say this too is a standard procedure after the previous standard procedure.

i have sent a reminder email on 3/12/2016 and then 5/12/2016 but till now have not received any response.

the hdd is still lying outside as a dead investment. The days are passing and I have started believing that buying a WD HDD was a real big mistake. my old vendor advised against it in the first place.

the guys are also rubbing salt into my wounds by sending an email asking me how is my experience with the HDD? its bloody pathetic.

are these wd guys going to increase the warranty for the number of days that they are forcing me to keep it in idle state?
THEY WILL NOT. but some parrot will definitely Copy-Paste some pathetic sentences that they are sorry for my inconvenience which they would not mean but will simply paste.

^This is a very specific case.
Don't generalize the event that happened with vidhubhushan. I feel sorry for brother vidhu, for what type of callous and nonsense ordeal he has to pass through as according to his comments.
But does that mean that all wd hdd's are cr@p and all seagate hdd's are usably good???
Different people have different experiences with hdd's.
I have both seagate and wdd,I had to replace seagate hdd's 4 times(refurbished hdd as replacement and within warranty period) . But I can't conclude that seagate hdd's are always bad.

imho, right now with the enhancement / development of technology over the years, one thing that has lost reliability in digital storage. i still remember the days of 360KB floppy disks. i bought one box of globus and it worked even after multiple formats and continuous usage in the computer institute's overused drives. then came the era of 1.44MB disks and after some time i found that the reliability is gone. i may insert it for the first time and find that its useless even after a single usage. formatting was out of question.
same is the case od Hard disk drives now. so none is best but over the years i have seen here that most of the people praise wd after sales / customer care that is why i opted for it. although i always listened to what my long time vendor advised as he is working in the market on a daily basis but i am not. because of his advice i never felt i am stuck any where. every time a replacement was needed, it was done in a speedy manner with almost no hassles except once when i insisted on a Lacie hdd and later a replacement was not available but later they gave me a bigger drive as that was the only thing available with them.
yesterday i called up wd number. it seems the girl was not well versed / polished, spoke with a haryanavi accent and it appeared that she is trying to find words. after few holdups, she told me that email team will follow up as i have sent an email on 5th. i told her many times that i have sent the details on 2nd only and the email sent on 5th was the second reminder - it appeared that she was unable to understand all these intricacies of communication. she finally told me that it will / may take SIX WORKING DAYS to get them back with me. i said - thank you very much and this is now the last wd item i am buying.
later i got an email that says - warranty has been updated as per bill but the Registered Item in my Account at WD website does not show the same correction / updation.
so much for such tall claims.

That means CC of WD is behaving farse and worst!!!
Ultimately it seems hdd market is going to wind up in the coming days, due to such silly & nonsense activities.

I never had any problem while RMAing WD Blue 1TB drive.

Even almost all types of components like motherboards, GPUs, HDDs, Cabinets are RMAed and never I faced any difficulties so far.

This happens when either the HDD is purchased in different country (or grey market import) or simply a bad luck of not able to find the serial number. Seagate has the same procedure. BTW, replacements are always refubished, irrespective of the HDD makers.

Did you try speaking to the seller? Maybe they can get it done quicker via their distributor.

true and that is only for warranty registration / correction

i also almost never had any problems in getting a replacement except for the Lacie HDD but this case is only for warranty registration / correction as per bill or date of purchase.

it seems you did not check the whole post. this case is only for warranty registration / correction as per bill or date of purchase. the purchase was done from a Local WD Retailer whose name was given by the local wd distributor. that person is a registered businessperson and gave me a proper bill along with all tax details. so its neither purchased in different country / grey market import nor a case of bad luck of not able to find the serial number. its just a case of doing a one minute thing in a week.

No wonder why WD reps. left the forum ;)

Anyway, All the HDDs are basically made through same technique .. so longevity depends upon usage and luck factor mostly for HDDs. Used HDDs from Seagate, WD, Toshiba, Hitachi so far and only needed to RMA seagate HDD so far. Having read the experience of the user there's no right or wrong company it terms of HDD purchase unless a particular model / batch has issues. With such views in my mind last time went for a Toshiba HDD which costed around 4.45k for 2TB :D
