I have a Sony DVD writer (DW-Q30A) with PATA interface from my old PC. Can I use it in my new PC (Compaq Presario SG 3430IL with a MSI MS-7525 Boston GL6 motherboard)? Thanks in advance to all. Arnab

Your motherboard does NOT have an IDE interface, so the only way you can use a PATA drive is to buy a PCI IDE card and fit it on the PCI slot, unless you already have some other expansion card in the single PCI slot. You can check the specs here:

The reason why many of us dislike branded computers is that, for reasons known only to them, they don't follow the ways things are done in the rest of the world. Most motherboards still have one IDE port and at least two PCI slots.

IDE to SATA convertors, use one of it if there is no IDE port in the mobo, which is more unlikely. Moreover there are not many SATA burner so the mobo not having a IDE port chances are less.
