Overclocking My CPU

Hi guys,

I use :
BIG geforce 6600 gfx card with 256 mb VRAM
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8 ghz prosy
ASUS A8n-e Mobo

I wanna overclock my gfx card n prosy... I dono anything abt overclocking... So, please help me out...

Thanks in advance

go to bios and increase the processor bus clocks from stock 200 to some 220nd try to boot. Keep the multiplier at default 9x.
if it boots normally into windows, restart again nd increase again by small values, say 3~4 mhz more and try to boot at each clocks.

And when u starts finding it to be unstable, reset the bios with juper trick and set the last gud overclocked clock that worked fine.

And also try some apps like HOT CPU tester free and see if the temps get high.
Also clean the cpu heatsink and fan to make sure it runs cool.

U can surelly get 2.4Ghz for sure and ive seen the old 3000+ even close to 3GHz stable on many systems.

But for that u need to have gud quality ram modules also. If ur ram is weak, then set the ram speed as 333 Mhz as that too is overclocked automatically with the cpu bus.
as u see when procy runs at 2.4 from 1.8, the cpu clocks will be 266. So ram wud be oced to 533 mhz!! from 400. So set it to 333 nd after oc it wud hit some 450 and it can do it.

BTW me too have the same board mate and its rock solid for ocing. ive hit 2.9Ghz on my X2 4200+ on it.

No pain....No gain
Max for 3000+ would be 2.5GHz with stock cooling. A8N-E is an excellent board for overclocking. For 3GHz o'c you will need a 3rd party cooler. Also try to keep the load temps below 60c at any cost.
For stability test use orthos. *sp2004.fre3.com/beta/beta2.htm

I use transcend 2x512mb ddr 400 ram. Wat should i do now?

BTW, I checked my bios... I dono how 2 handle with OC as iam a newbie... Think there are 2 menus where the overclocking takes place, the dram submenu in the cpu menu and the jumprefree setting menu... so, Which 1 to handle with?

In BIOS I went 2 Advanced -> Jumper free configuration

OverClock Profile - (AUTO, manual, standard, A.I.O overclock, AI N.O.S) Auto is the default option... To which i should change?
OverClock option - disabled
N.O.S Option - disabled
cpu frequency - 200.0
pci express clock - 100 mhz
ddr voltage - auto
cpu multiplier - auto
cpu voltage - auto
pci clock sync mode - auto

Wat are the other info required???

Please help me how to OC in step by step manner.

I tried OCing my CPU n here is the result :

multiplier - 9x
DDR voltage, CPU voltage - auto

First changed cpu frequency to 220 - It was stable
next changed cpu frequency to 230 - It was stable
next changed cpu frequency to 234 - Not stable

next changed cpu frequency to 230 - not stable :(

Is this the max tat i can OC???

Wat should i do now???

Check the stability with prime95/orthos and rthdribl (Real-Time High Dynamic Range Image-Based Lighting) *www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/
These will max out your cpu as well as gfx card, in other words max out your system recources.
The machine would crawl in terms of performance but if it is still running after say 30 minutes with no error and also with cpu and gfx temps under limit, then you can say that the overclock is stable.

Wise Old Owl
Once when i reached 2.9Ghz on my X2 939 4200+, i reduced the multiplier from 11 to 10 and crancked up the cpu frequency.
And the quality of memory modules too affect the oc potential. My transcent DDR 400 was easily ocable to 480Mhz @ 3-3-3-5
and do reduct the HT frequency. It wont reduce the performance much, but helps gain more stability.
And if u have gud memory, then u can slightly increase memory voltage also and memory can attain higher clocks w/o loosing stability.

if u buy asus p5k premium motherboard . there is a p5k book it describes overclocking in details but the cost of board is around 14,500/-
