[Open] Illustrator and Photoshop lagging in i5+6GB RAM

I own Lenovo Z510 laptop with configuration - i5 4th gen, 6GB RAM, 8GB SSD(hybrid). and Nvidia GeForce 740M. Even in this configuration Illustrator and Photoshop CS5 is lagging (Even when working without textures, just plain colors). How can I optimize the settings? In Photoshop for hardware acceleration it uses onboard Intel 4000 graphics. Is that the reason? I am not getting Nvidia on drop down (switchable graphhics?).

Please help. Its painfully slow!

I have used both at a time on a machine with similar configuration. Make sure that there are no resource hungry software running in background.

PS CC works fine even in my i3 2100 with IGP (HD 2000). There much me some background apps running. Check task manager.

I will check TaskManager. I have set them to use 740M. Now it seems a little okay.
