Nvidia 7950 GT or 7900 GT or 7900GS ???

hi guys, i just wanted to know which is best BET == Geforce Nvidia 7950 GT or 7900 GT or 7900GS ??? . all are under $300 margin. all three have PCI-e x16 interface.

I am going to get them from USA.

Will my INTEL 915G board support any of these card.

the device manager shows the model of my M/B as = "Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family" & when i go to intel's website to clarify my doubt, i am totally confused... see for your self... *www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-011594.htm , i dont know which is my model there!! , one of them doesnt has PCI-e x16 gfx. interface.

The below 300$ price is only applicable in the US . In india they are priced higher. i doubt whether 7950 GT & 7900GS are yet available in India. Your motherboard probably supports PCI-E card.

gooby pls
If your mobo doesn't have X16 PCI-e slot then your mobo must have agp slots.

Install SiSoft Sandra 2007 and then tell the model no. of mobo.

Only PCI,then don't buy nvidia cards(they are available in agp and pci-e X16 slots)your mobo doesnot supports agp and pci-e cards, upgrade you mobo which has 16X PCI-e slot.

F**k !!! just when i thought, i'll get huge UPGRADE with a Gfx. Card, i came to know my M/B doesnt has a PCI-e slot.

What is a good solution for this?? any good card with PCI support.

My budget is only $300, so can i get a good M/B based on intel 975/965 or supporting both P4 3.06 Proccy as well as quad core & a gfx card (7900gs)???

No for PCI,it is outdated.First get a new mobo which has many and new features such as ddr 2 ram supports,16X pci-e support, sata support.etc and then purchase a good graphic card.

One stupid question....
(Enlarge the pic) are those solder points a POSSIBLE SLOT to PLACE A PCI-e Holder. & is it POSSIBLE to do a MOD like THIS & making a bios Update.

*img181.imageshack.us/img181/3328/pcipcieax9.th.jpg

why i'm asking this Question is that if i dont spend the $300 for PC now, then i'll be spending it on other unneccessary stuffs (as time flies by, & when you have $300, ..........drinks...my bike.........)
As of now, i dont want do a M/B upgrade, coz Intel's Quad Core is just months away....

Shall i just get that card (7900gt) & then do the m/B upgrade later(next year) & will there be a second hand M/B with PCI-e for 1000-2000 bucks

It is beyond doubt that the most wise solution would be to sell off your current mobo and RAM and get a new Mobo, RAM and GPU. 512MB RAM can't even make full use of a 6600GT which is a nera future entry level current card and a lo end card since quite a while.

Sell off your current mobo and RAM, you should get 3-5k max. Add the rest, now we have around 20k, or >15k to buy new stuff.

A new Mobo should cost you atleast 50$. Alternately, don't sell your RAM, just add another 512MB module and make it 1GB. This way you will be able to play most games of 2004 and 2005 fine. After a few months upgrade to 2GB RAM. In doing all this you loose 100$, in case you feel you can get 2GB RAM very cheap, like 100$ or under, it would be more advisable to buy it in that case.

So now you have blown up anywhere between 100-150$.
The best graphic cards for you to consider now:

1900XTX >300$
1900XT 512 >250$
1900XT 256 >240$
Geforce 7900GTO > 200$
Geforce 7900GT >220-240$, as long as it doesn't die, which might be a problem with this card

Thanx guys @tech_mastermind & @akshayt & @samrulez for your replies & especially you @tech for some really Quick ones

well, i think i'll do the Mobo upgrade AFTER the launch of Intel's Quad Core.
as of now for temporary period, i'll get a second hand mobo with PCI-e.

About the Gfx. Card, i think i'll go for a $50-80 budget & get a low/mid end card. coz DX10 is also nearing its launch.... who knows whether new games & application (next version of autocad) will run on a old DX9 based card after one year.

So which card will be a good idea for atleast 6 months.
7600GS, 7300GS/LE....??????
what do you guys think of " Radeon X1300 PCI card" based card-- only $100.
Will this card work on my Intel 915G M/B.

if go for this card i'll be saving some money (no need for upgrade for current M/B ) for the final upgrade (intel Quad core based ones).

the games i'll be playing are NFS MW, NFS C, GTA SA with full gfx. settings.
If possible, will i get a PCI based card.
in this site they've put "Interface: PCI, PCI Express" under most of the gfx. card, so does this mean that a card can support both interface.
