An engine which uses air as fuel
Tata Motors and technology inventor, MDI of France, sign agreement

MUMBAI, 5th of February 2007

Tata Motors, in keeping with its role as the leading company in India for automotive R&D, has signed an agreement, in yet another exciting engineering and development effort, with MDI of France for application in India of MDI’s path-breaking technology for engines powered by air.

The MDI Group is headed by Mr. Guy Negre, who founded the company in the 1990s in pursuit of his dream to pioneer an engine using just compressed air as fuel – which may be the ultimate environment-friendly engine yet. Besides, the engine is efficient, cost-effective, scalable, and capable of other applications like power generation.

The agreement between Tata Motors and MDI envisages Tata’s supporting further development and refinement of the technology, and its application and licensing for India.

Commenting on the agreement, Mr. Guy Negre has said, “MDI has for many years been engaged in developing environment-friendly engines. MDI is happy to conclude this agreement with Tata Motors and work together with this important and experienced industrial group to develop a new and cost-saving technology for various applications for the Indian market that meets with severe regulations for environmental protection. We are continuing the development with our own business concept of licensing car manufacturers in other parts of the world where the production is located close to the markets. We have also developed this new technology for other applications where cost competitiveness combined with respect for environmental questions has our priority.”

- About MDI
MDI is a small, family-controlled company located at Carros, near Nice (Southern France) where Mr. Guy Negre and Mr. Cyril Nègre, together with their technical team, have developed a new engine technology with the purpose of economising energy and respect severe ecological requirements – at competitive costs.

what is AIR CAR?
MDI CAT´s compressed air technology cars.

MDI introduces compressed air vehicles to the market.

MDI has developed a high performance compressed air technology. When it is compared to traditional gasoline powered engines, MDI´s engine is far superior in terms of energy used and thermodynamics.

An overview of the air car
The technology that MDI vehicles use is not new, in fact it had been around for years. Compressed air technology allows for engines that are both non polluting and economical. After ten years of research and development, MDI is prepared to introduce its clean vehicles onto the market. Unlike electric or hydrogen powered vehicles, MDI vehicles are not expensive and do not have a limited driving range. MDI cars are affordable and have a performance rate that stands up to current standards. To sum it up, they are non-expensive cars that do not pollute and are easy to get around cities in.

Two technologies have been developed to meet different needs:
  • Single energy compressed air engines
  • Dual energy compressed air plus fuel engines

Nice info:p , btw y most of the cars look bumped from all sides, new designs or wat:smile:

It is styled like that to make it more spacious. However I think Tata motors will change the BIW design to suit Indian conditions. The styling shown in the pic is very expensive to manufacture. Hence they might revamp the design to make it affordable in India. Tata motors has been doing that and will continue to do so. One lakh Car, the dream of Mr.Ratan Tata is a indigineous design and very much affordable. Who thought that 1-Lakh Car is possible?

thanks 4 the news.... but it takes a long time to come in to market..... TATA's are now concentrating on their Rs.1 lakh priced car..... and i think AIRCAR runs on Oxygen...... we are already loosing oxygen...... pollution with patrol may be reduced with that cars..... but it also reduce the percentage of oxygen in air.....
