I use virtual dub and WinAVI for converting .dat files to avi.
It was working perfectly with the videos being converted playing nicely.

But now a peculiar problem has developed. The files converted to avi are
running but the video hangs after certain instant and only the audio keeps
on running. Sometimes only the audio is audible and video doesn't start.

The dat files of movies are running perfect .

What could be the problem.

I use Windows Media Player 9 and DivX Player.
I have windows XP SP1 with 128 MB of RAM.

Vinay Patel ! U don't seem to understand the problem.
The video files converted to AVI are running but video is not visible
only audio is heard.

I have tried real player and power DVD both but the problem seems to persist.

If you have encoded the files with the newer version of the DivX codec, yes, this can and will happen to most people, yours truly included. Kindly post more information on your conversion process and the codec used for conversion, so we can help you out. Its very common for newer DivX codecs to cause problems where the audio track runs without a problem while the video comes to a screeching halt at a frame.

you have to use perfact new divx codec or if u r using divx 5.1 then you have to use divx adware for encoding
or use xvid codec for converting

if your conversion is perfact then use "divfix" for fix problem in avi file.

may be this will help you

I use DivX codec 5.0.1 for converting video files into avi.
Variable Bitrate: 1-pass and Encoding Bitrate of around 745 Kbps.

Now another problem has also developed. I have a movie file in
divx format. Crystal clear quality with no interruptions. Recently,
I watched it after 3-4 weeks and I was shocked to see it.The background
color has turned Red and the movie has become completely unwatchable.
:( :( :( :(

What could be the problem :?: :?:

Definitely DivX. First, uninstall DivX completely from your computer and reinstall it fresh. If that doesn't fix the problem, you may have to downgrade to a lower version of the codec. A lot of people have found the 5.xx codecs pretty unreliable, yours truly included.
