hi guys. I am posting this thread on behalf of my friend who has been using his pentium d pc for the past 5 years. he plans on buying the new rig in 3 days.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Gaming (batman arkham city, nfs run, metro 2033, battlefield 3, etc), watching A LOT OF HD MOVIES.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 40-44k max (not more than 44k).

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Maybe in future.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7(present and 8 in future).

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 2 TB (has to be included).

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:not needed. already have samsung b2030 lcd.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, ups, printer.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: in 3 days.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: will assemble it.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:New delhi. will get everything from nehru place.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:confused between ati 77**, 68** series and nvidia gtx 560.

CPU - Phenom II 960T - 7k (else you can get a non overclock able SB)
Mobo - AsRock fx990 Extreme4 - 10k
GPU - HD 7770 - 9k (should be enough for your resolution, and will consume far less power than anything Nvidia 5x)
PSU - get someone else's suggestion, will not exceed 4k-4.5k for a good one.
Cabinet - CM Elite 311 (311+) depending on if you want a side window. 2.5k
RAM - G.skill Sniper 1600 2x4GB (will match the board color too) 3.2k
HDD - 2TB WD sata 6gbps Green drive - 6.5k

All of this should come well within 44k, did I miss something? You can upgrade to a 6870 or a 1090T if you can find one and fits within the budget. You could also get a CM hyper EVO+ for around 2.5k and overclock the hell out of your cpu, although you should check the cabinet clearance first :p

i was thinking of suggesting him this:-

Intel i5-2400 -- 11.8k
Intel DH67VR @ 4.6k
GPU - HD 7770 - 9k
Corsair Vengeance 2*4GB DDR3 RAM -- 3.2k
seasonic s12II 520w @ 4.2k
2TB WD sata 6gbps Green drive - 6.5k
cm 460 @ 2.7k
lg ODD @ 1k

total:43k

asked him again.. he won't be OC'ing even a bit. so dropped the 'k' proccy. i think the above config can handle most of the games that he will be playing. 960t is a good proccy but he wont be OC'ing a bit.

Yep, sounds good. Although I would recommend a H77 motherboard personally, even if a had to choose a H67 mobo, I would still avoid an Intel motherboard. Vengeance RAM is also very tall, and will rule out quite a few aftermarket coolers if such a thing is ever necessary. Ripjaws should cost the same. My 2 cents.

Also by cm460 I presume you mean cm311

i feel that you should just oc your current processor and buy a new gfx card with that money
buying a new rig wouldnt show a very drastic improvement over your current one
hope this helps!
