new notebook with not-so-fit hard disk

Are we there yet?
I recently got my new Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 notebook and transferred the data from my old notebook to this new one successfully. To have a look at the temperature of new machine I downloaded SpeedFan which fortunately has S.M.A.R.T. tool for Hard disk. I got this when looking at the S.M.A.R.T. Data of disk of new notebook.

Can anyone tell me what is with this "Spin Retry Count" thing? (the smart.jpg file in the attachments)
Is my hard disk really unfit for use??

Any help will be appreciated.. :)

PS- i have outlined the main things in the two files.

PPS- S.M.A.R.T. hard disk status

take it back and let the techs replace the hdd for you. i'd advise you NOT to use this hdd, as it may fail anytime (prolly the hdd got damaged during shipping)

i think it counts the number of times its failed to properly spin-up and has been forced to respin another time.

I will advice you to do the following:

1. Your Laptop must have come with : Lenovo Troubleshooting Center

2. If not, download it from the Here (For Lenovo only)

3. And run this program, if you get the error , report it to lenovo with the screenshot from this program.

First of all my laptop don't have Lenovo Troubleshooting Center pre-installed. And the download link you have given is for windows 2000 and for ThinkPad systems only. By the way, I am downloading it anyways.

I finally got the main problem, its the Intel 6-series chipsets problem that costed Intel so much trouble (and now its my turn i guess, ;) ).
Lenovo Announcement

After talking to the customer care I found that although my notebook series i.e. Z570 is not listed in the above link, it is also affected. I logged a complaint about the same. They told me to send an email to lenovo care with reference to the above complaint ID. I am about to do it now.

Thanks for ur help, I really appreciate it.. :)

the lenovo troubleshooting centre is unable to perform the S.M.A.R.T. tests on my hard disk, i wonder if Lenovo will accept the results of any 3rd party software, if i send them to Customer care..

NO Lenovo will never accept results of third party software.

Because, that Lenovo Trobleshooting Centre

1. Is not a joke.

2. It is the most advanced Repair and Diagnostic Software used by Professionals and technicians.

3. It is actually PC-DOCTOR software made specially for Lenovo.

4. And that's the reason I suggested you to download the piece of cake (software) in the first place!!

You can send the report generated by the software to Lenovo. I think the result goes automatically to Lenovo if you are connected to the internet.

I think SMART is not enabled in the BIOS for your HDD. Enable it.

1. Run CHKDSK . Goto MyComputer -->> Select D: drive ---> right Click ---> Then TOOLS tab --->>> Check Now

2. Yes to check it during Re-Start.

3. Re-Start your comp.

4. Let it check for errors and fix them.

5. Run the Lenovo Troubleshooter again.

There is no option for enabling the SMART in BIOS. :(
Anyways, i have sent an email regarding the Intel Chipset problem and got a reply asking about my details, which i have sent as required. Waiting for their reply now...

I knew that you will never know that setting!!! :|

And I will never tell you that!!

I think no one is interested in your Chipset Problem here and no one can help you with that here.

Mods should close this thread....... for good, going offtopic.

You are well aware why I told you that in my previous post. And don't presume me to be like you!

I ask for help when I need it, and help other when I can.

Don't be arrogant when you need help or help others. And that's the reason I said so to you.

(using words like, anyway i did this, and that sounds arrogant to me)
