Hello everybody: -

I bought a new Seagate Barracuda 320 GB HDD. & plug it alongwith my existing 160 GB HDD & Boot from the New Seagate HDD & Install OS = XP SP-3 on it.

1st Problem: Disk Management shows capacity of New HDD = 298.09 GB. Where 20 GB can be gone??

I Partition it as follows: -
C: (System Partition) = 100 GB
E: (Logical Drive) = 60 GB, 1st I create an extended partition then convert it to Logical Drive.
Unallocated Space = 138.09

2nd Problem: To partition the Unallocated Space, I right click on it. But in the New Partition Wizard, only Primary Partition option is active. Extended partition & Logical Drive options are NOT Active. Why they are inactive?

How other Extended partitions can be created?

Nothing wrong with the capacity. Manufacturers calculate 1000 bytes = 1 kilobyte instead of 1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte. So all HDD's actually have less space as compared to what is advertised (93.13% of the original to be exact).

Thanks. Capacity doubt is clear!.

But why Extended Partition Option is Inactive in Disk Management > New Partition Wizard??. How Logical Drives (D:, E:, F:, G: etc) can be crated using Disk Management??.
