the price difference between amd x2 4800 and amd x2 5000 is not justified....if ur going for x2 5200 @ 8k then please go for x2 5200+ arnd 8.5k (u will get 2 mb cache memory) or else go for x2 4800 for arnd 6.5k and save the 1.5k and invest on smps or some other stuff...if u still wanna go for x2 5000 then go for x2 5200 for only 500 rs extra...

b.t.w i am buying my pc tom: see wat i m buying

1) amd x2 4800 = 6500
2) biostar amd 690g= 4200
3) 1 gb ddr2 667 mhz= 2500 (price offered to me in kolkata
4) 160 gb hard disk - 2500
5) cabinet+smps- 3000 (invest on a good spmps as it will help in long run)

total comes to arnd 18700 and with 4% vat comes to arnd 19500!

now compare this with intel config:
1) intel core 2 duo E6420 - 10000
2) msi neo f- 5700
3) 1 gb ddr2 667 mhz= 2500 (price offered to me in kolkata
4) 160 gb hard disk - 2500
5) cabinet+smps- 3000 (invest on a good spmps as it will help in long run)
6) graphics card- appx 2000 (coz the mobo doesnt come with integrated gfx)

total - 25700 and and with 4%vat it comes to 26800 appx

now to compare the two the difference in price is roughly 7500 rs ...which is not justified if you are going to use it moderately for home in day to day life...also it was said by anandtech that E6400 was between amd 4600 and amd 5000 in performance so i dont think u will miss out on a huge deal for the given price...this is when u dont overclock i.e comparison at stock speed...
so decide which config is more sensible for guyz with a budget!

@rahul30 a great reasoning. Your AMD configuration is very nice and very competitive price. Intel systems are useless considering their price. More over with this Biostar [AMD 690G] motherbaord you will get onboard graphics i.e. ATI X1200 which is best at present in integrated graphics catagory. Also at present biostar board is best among all when compared with Asus & MSI etc because it has both DVI as well as HDMI integrated. One more thing if you want to look is you should go for 65nm processor instead of 90nm

I could not buy yet as I am under relocation [shifting]. Will buy soon. I have already narrowed down to 5000+, 5200+ or 5600+ with 690G mobo, presently inclined towards Biostar, or I will wait for ATX 690G from Asus/MSI.

buddy i went to the market today and these are the prices i got

1) amd x2 4800- rs 6175
amd x2 5200- rs 8450

3) 1 gb ddr2 667 mhz ram- 2450
4)160gb hard disk sata- 2400

actually ppl have a very wrong perception of core 2 duo being better than everything else...yes i agree that it is a new architecture but nowhere u can question amd because trust me in day to day browsing u wont even able to tell me the difference between the two...also every1 is not born with a lavish budget to spend...had i gone for the core 2 duo quivalent of amd x2 5200 i.e E6420 i would have paid 10000 for the processor and another 5800 for the motherboard and another 2k for a very low end graphics card...and that makes no sense... amd 690g integrated gfx is the best available right now as then combo which i got for 12500 u can compare with E6420 & mobo for arnd 16000 (also add 2k for gpu)+2k= 18k...now tell me wts da diff...and for your info i dont overclock srry not for me!
