Ok so recently I started using wifi from cabled network, My dad bought a Linksys E2000 router from US.

Initially I thought it was a Modem+Router and tried everything to make it work, the realized i also need a modem to use it and attached a MTNL modem i had via ethernet cable.

Now I am planning to return the MTNL modem(cancel the Rs.50 rent) and buy a ADSL2+ wired MODEM.

Now a friend to me that i need to change certain settings in the modem configuration page, like then MTNL people did in the modem they provided, but my router as well as my MODEM has a configuration page so I am confused as to which setting in the correct one, do I need to forward ports on both(for certain apps) ?

Should I buy wired Modem or get a new Modem+Router and sell off my current router ?

it is better if you get adsl modem+router(preferably wifi).here is a good model for Rs.2210(including shipping cost):
TP-LINK TD-W8961ND ADSL2 plus Modem Router
wired modem+router again from TP-LINK will cost ~1000 but i suggest wifi because later if you feel the need for wifi(& you will)then again you will be in same situation you are in now.

AFAIK , Port forwarding is done on Router mainly when in PPPOE mode. In bridge mode all the ports are open by default.

You need to use the Bridge mode instead of PPPOE mode and enter all the login credentials of your modem in your router.

Its better to get an AiO wirless modem+router for ease.
