I always trust DVD :)

And after seeing the number of HDD crashes these days, better to safe your data in DVDs.

DVD r not a permanent sol^n. In long run u'l face trouble. I wrote a lot of DVDs in my college time, now after 3 yrs, they r refusing to play.

U like or not, u've to go for external storage.

DVDs can lull you into a false sense of security that all your data is safely backed up, ready to be retrieved whenever you want. The feeling of inserting a disk into the optical drive and realizing that the drive is unable to read it, is maddening. More so when that disk contains the only backup copy of your most important data. :p

actually i was about a burn a dvd now for all my photos and delete the ones in my laptop..

but then thought that i had a problem with similar such large number of photos being burnt and reading them after...even a sligtest scracth will spoil the whole dvd...

i dont know wht to do..

even the external drives are costly .. i cant get one on constant basis...

man this is the problem when u get bandwidth when you prev were on a dial-up :-D

i think i may have to delete all the F!lms ...

i am just backing up s3rials ...

any ideas ? please share it guys

Delete serials, backup films.
Serials r not something u would watch again. They get old with time, not films. (Exception: Mr. Bean tv series)

Hahaha! You definately need a blu-ray writer.

Other than that you are restricted to burning DVDs like me. I check my DVD backups every three months. If they show signs of wear and tear then,
> if it has obsolete data, out it goes.
> if is important, burn again.
> if some data are imporant but some are redundant then a new compilation.

online storage ?

i have to download again..

its like doing a thing twice .. at cost of my bandwidth ...

i dont think online storage is good... may be for my photos...

i think i should start uploading photos to picasa or something reliable..

@ rhitwick:

isnt it the other way round ...

serials are hard to find bro... even if you want to get a legit copy , you cant get it .. even if you find .. you will be lagging by seasons....

Bluray writer ??

man bluray disc cost 1k ... ( correct me if i am wrong.. )

Naveen, I guess ur and my priorities r diff. I would kep a film and delete serials after watching them.

But, if u want to preserve ur data. External HDDs are ur only solution. Cost per MB is less than DVDs for them.

I don't know about ur finance solution. If u r still dependent on ur parents, then just save ur pocket money for few months, u can a 500GB HDD (or at least 250GB) with that.

If u can manage a CreditCard, buy from eBay and make it an emi for 6 months (0% interest charge).
