1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Generic answers will not work. Be exact and avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Corel Draw, Photoshop, Video Editing, the machine will also be used for web development and I will run apache server. Overall I need a machine that can handle graphic work easily. My current Laptop can do all that but it is not fast and I need fast machine to improve my efficiency. I need 16RAM atleast.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: Rs. 70000

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Yeah why not!

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:Mostly windows but will dual boot with fedora too

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:Dont need HDD right now, I have SATA

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: I will buy Dell 23+ inch LED. The GC should have HD+VGA output.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:HDD, Mouse, Keyboard

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:1 month (by Jan end)

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:Yes Assembler will do it

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:Delhi, I will go to Nehru Place. I can buy online!!

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I prefer Intel Core i7 2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz and a motherboard that support 16gb ram. I checked the PC buying guide at *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/pc-components-configurations/143901-pc-buying-guide-2011-q4.html but i7 is mentioned under sub 85k range, whereas I would like to spend 70k but want to make sure that I have i7 sandy bridge.

I can spend 20k more only when it is required.

Thanks!

Intel i7-2600k - 18000
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 - 13500
16 GB Gskill Ripjaws X 1600 Mhz DDR3 - 6500~ (get it from Flipkart. 2 * 8 GB or 4 * 4 GB is your choice)
Corsair TX750v2 or Seasonic SS-750AT Power Supply - 5800 (get these online. Nehru Place dealers especially SMC will force you to buy Cooler Master PSUs. Avoid them.)
Cooler Master Hyper 212+ CPU cooler - 2000 (good enough for overclocking by a normal guy. One should only go for a bigger cooler if he is seriously into overclocking)
Cooler Master HAF 912 - 6000 (in Nehru Place, you only get Cooler Master cabinets.)
24x DVD Writer - 950
APC 1.1 kVA UPS - 4400
MSI HD 6850 - 9500 (Graphic card. Depends on what your gaming requirements are.)

- Total 66650.

I have skipped monitor as it is your choice on what you need.

No high-end graphic cards today come with VGA port. So, you'll have to use an adapter if you are hooking with an old VGA monitor. VGA is outdated anyways.

One more thing, AMD/ATi is releasing new generation of graphic cards which will probably reach India by mid or late January. As you are buying around January end, bump this thread again as we might suggest you the then latest HD 7000 series graphic card.

^ he didn't mention 3ds max and Maya. :) Otherwise I'd have.

Corel Draw, Photoshop and Video editing are processor intensive. Graphic card doesn't really coming into play even in Maya/3ds Max until you view Viewports. Except when you use it for transcoding videos or some photoshop GPGPU accelerated filters. For these, consumer graphic cards are fine. :)

Good point but those cards cost a bomb(quite literally) and would consume a fair chunk out of the budget. Not sure if the rest can be accommodated alongside those cards.
And also 6850 should do fine for the tasks mentioned.

^ edit:- Was for the previous post. :p

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your responses. Last year I didn't buy the PC, I delayed it but now I need to buy a PC. I have finalised the following components and need suggestions for the rest.

I am sure about
***************
Hard Disk: Intel X-25M 80GB SSD
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO LGA
RAM: G.Skill 16GB (4X4) 1600 Mhz DDR3
UPS: APC 1.1 kVA

I am not sure about
****************
Cabinet: Cooler Master HAF 912
PSU: Corsair TX750v2
Graphics Card: MSI HD 6850
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster N620

Are there any options for these 4 components.

P.S. - This forum is amazing. Just reading through old topics make you learn so much. Good work!

What is the reason of un-surety with TX750V2?

For RAM pick up 2x G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) each kit for 2K from flipkart.
