Empty any one partition and format it as ext3. Take about 1gb of space split it and format it as ext3. then insert the dvd, boot from it and follow the instructions.

Use Gparted tool from the Ubuntu DVD itself to format in ext3. *gigasmilies.googlepages.com/12a.gif

Boot from the live DVD and use Gparted from there. It will help u to create a ext3 partition. Do it before installing Ubuntu, just after booting from the DVD. *gigasmilies.googlepages.com/12a.gif
