need help to format!!

hey ppl... i m thinking to format my pc. i dnt have much idea about how to do it. so i have few Qs to ask...
how to do formatiing of my pc? i gt 4 patitions.. can i format individual partitions or i have to format all together and then how do i partition again??

i gt to take backups. n if take backups in dvds wont the virus tats already in my pc wl get copied to the backup dvds?

also i need antivirus.. can anyone recommend any free antivirus??

U wll need to register on their site fr free .They wll send u an activation key!
U can use the soft without activating fr a grace period of abt a month(Thts what I remember)

Get it frm Essentials in digit cd or Download it frm net.
Update ur definitions

If u wanna Format
First specify tht do un plan to install xp and own an xp bootable disc or u are trying to install somne other OS(Win 9X,Me,Linux etc)

If u plan to hv install using XP cds here is a complete tutorial

first one dont format the pc, format HDD instead

its really very easy.
if u want to format you hdd drive while using windows. just right click on the drive you wanna format and choose "format" to format it.

if you want to format the drive through console. then use command "format" followed by the drive name i.e
format c: --------- to format c drive
format d: ---------- to format d drive

simple.

can i format individual partitions or i have to format all together and then how do i partition again??

one dont need to format the whole hdd at once (though one must have reason to do so)

you can safely format individual drives without worring about other ones'

## you cannot format the main drive i.e the one you are currently using for windows while running windows.

to format all partitions either format them one by one or
just delete all the partitions using using your bootable OS (win98/me/2000/xp/2k3/vista) CD, and then make new one.

yes, if the virus is present in your drives then taking backup wont help.
first make a thorough scan of all your drives for viruses. clean or delete the infected files then perform the backup.

well that's a tough question. you can use avast or kaspersky. both are good.

well thx for the help.
the link gives a clear idea abt how to install xp.

bt when i format the individual partitions, how do i format the partition in which XP in installed??? wat can be done fr tat??
one way is ofcourse i can delete the partiton while installing the XP(there is an option fr tat). bt tat way the partition is delted , bt i want the partition and want the partition to be formatted.
