Need help in buying a smart phone

Hi guys,
Please guide me for buying a low end smart phone.
The phone that i am now using is Nokia 1250 which is a basic phone.Now i want to buy a better phone. My requirements are.
1. Multimedia.
2. Internet.
I prefer 3G. Also i want to know that can i use the same 3G internet on my phone to connect my Laptop to the internet? My friends told me that if i am using phone to connect to the net for the laptop it will reduce the life of phone due to heating issue. What if i use wifi or bluetooth instead of data cable(USB) to connect to the laptop?
3.Android
I dont have any particular reason. Just love its interface :). Also heared that it is the best touch operating system.
4.Touch screen
5. Maximum price of 10000 rupees.
6. Reputed brands like NOKIA,SAMSUNG....
I am giving internet and multimedia for top priority and i can adjust with other factors.
The only phone which i can find affordable at a reasonable price is SAMSUNG GALAXY 5. Will i get 2.2 froyo with it ?? Is it possible for me to update a phone OS manually just like i am doing in my PC?
It has a 2MP camera only and that is not a problem to me. I need a smart phone with lots of applications and internet.
So kindly give me your valuable instructions :)

Thanks Sam.Shab.But what about my 2nd doubt ? If i connect my phone for Internet , to the laptop will it cause damage to the phone?

^^ Don't buy the Galaxy 5, wait for the Galaxy pop which will be available in 2-3 weeks from now. You can pre-order one from flipkart.com for Rs. 8999 or wait for to be available with the retailers.

Galaxy Pop @ 8.5k is really worth the price. now shops will trick users (who are interested in Android but in a low budget) to get G5.

Excessive usage may damage battery but not phone.
Same cannot be said for cheap chinese phones THEY JUST BLAST :-D

BTW another option is LG Optimus Me P350.

Its specs on gsmarena is the reason for making people think this about its price. But some sources says that those specs are wrong. Instead of 3.2" screen its 2.8" (with QVGA resolution)

^^ But the Galaxy Mini aka Glaxay Pop has 3.2"screen so why buy a phone with 2.8". Also Samsung's battery life tends to be better than LG's. Reliability is another issue.

the Me looks more like a 3" (no 2.8 or 3.2"). & with those specs, it'll be priced below 10k surely. maybe 9k.

3.2" screen with QVGA resolution, I kinda dislike this. Samsung gotta come up with some good products unlike this.
This phone is strictly for those who just wanna experience bigger 3.2" android screen, leaving the resolution thing aside.

Some people confirms it to be 2.8".
