Naxalite guerillas destroyed a telecom exchange of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and a tower of Reliance Communications (R-Com) in separate attacks in the interior areas of Kanker district.

The incident occurred on Saturday night but the authorities could get the information only yesterday night, as the entire communication network collapsed in the area, following the attack.

According to police sources, more than 100 heavily-armed insurgents struck Kapsi — a sleepy village located in the thickly forested pocket in Kanker district — about 300 km from the state capital. The village is located in the area that is under the influence of rebels. The Naxalites kept the villagers hostage at gun-point after assembling them at one point.

“The rebels later set the exchange of state-run telecom major BSNL and tower of Reliance Communications on fire,” senior police officials in the police headquarters said today. While the devastating fire severely damaged the BSNL exchange, heavy equipment of Reliance Communications was also gutted.

Still this menance of Naxalites should be taken seriously.Just because backward states get effected doest mean( Even in Maharashtra its Gadchiroli and Bhandara which are backward districts) Government should not neglect the problem.
This monster is getting strong as days progress.
