multiple IE pages

hello
i have a problem here. i use win xp. whenever i start up my system and as soon as the desktop loads, around 10 - 12 unwanted(ads, spam,etc) internet explorer pages are opened. so i decided to scan my comp with avast antivirus. i got around 10 infected files and i deleted them. but, this problem is still continuing. what do i do now?(do i use an antispyware?)

Personally i would suggest Get Spybot Search n Destroy its free but its one of the best even with compairing with the paid ones...

First post your HijackThis logfile for a better analysis of your system.

Second : In addition to Spybot S n D, use Spyware Blaster : It wont let malware install on your system ..

Install Spybot and scan entire PC.
Also since your PC is already infected, many registry entries would have been made by Spyware which is invoking the spam pages to open. Do a registry scan.
Download: Ccleaner

yep, malware infection allright !

download install update adaware AND avg-antispyware. scan with both of them in SAFE MODE. then use 'ccleaner' to clean up ur residual pc junk. it shud solve ur problem. reboot.
