Mouse cursor disappears and cannot type

Lately, while using Word or Excel I notice the page refreshing (a slight blip) and the cursor disappears and then the keyboard stops responding and I have to click the mouse for the program to continue and then it happens again and again. This happens even in Notepad. I think it must be a driver issue coz when I go to safe mode this does not occur. I reinstalled all drivers but it keeps on happening in spite of the re installation. I really dont know what to do. Please advise

Windows 8.1 common problem!

Go to device manager!
Right Click USB Serial devices and uninstall
Restart PC

kunal. there are a whole lot of usb serial bus controllers...which do I uninstall? All of them?

Yep all of them!
Better take a backup first!

I did that but the problem persists. You know the red cross which closes the window in explorer? That also turns transparent and loses colour and then the cursor disappears and I cannot type of use the keyboard. I have to right click my mouse and then it starts working and in about five seconds the same thing occurs again and I am at my wits end. I wonder if there is anyone facing the same problem but this forum seems to be like non functional..no one bothers
