MotoG--WiFi switches on by its own

Guys, the WiFi in my Moto G turns ON automatically whenever there is an available signal. How do i turn off this feature? pls suggest.

thank you so much for that helpful pointer...when i checked the settings in my snapdragon battery guru. i saw an an option--allow WiFi to turn on or off based on your usage...all that was needed is to turn that option off thnaks again.
