More than half a dozen software problems here. HELP.

I am facing problems with these softwares mentioned below. I need a solution badly.


1. Trend Micro AV - When I click on the start option for scan , an IE pop up says "Restart Inter Explorer".


2. Netmeter - NETMETER caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 0167:bff98adb.

3. Spyware blaster & Spyware Doctor - When running the prog says virus on ur drive or bad sectors .... BTW I've scanned many times for viruses and bad sectors. None exist

7. Firefox - Opens and then hangs. Then upon ctrl + alt + del says Not responding


8. Spyware Guard - Checks for updates [Status - Full] and then shows download status and this msg comes up

The server returned the following unexpected response.


Please help me out......

if i had a problem like is one, i'd try a system restore.

else i'd do a boot-time virus scan (avast) or one in safe mode.

then i'd do a couple of spyware scans ms anti-spy or adaware.
id try to keep only one browser, apart from ie.
i'd reduce my startups.
i'd use ccleaner or ace utilities to scrub my pc.

try it and hope for the best. else there r always experts here who might address your question in specifics. :)

Glad u mentioned this but this has already been done.

well seems ur PC is either infected or some system critical files are messed UP.....

1) Uninstall all the apps having problem(if u have repare options repare it..) keep only the bare min apps....then update ur Avast (if possible switch to Kaspersky/Nod32)and perform a full scan...also insted of spybot/avast..get Counterspy from sunbelt soft (15 days trial)..update it fully and then scan ur PC....

2) if u have a restore point..to a previous good state roll back....

3) start->run->cmd->sfc/scannow ...insert the XP cd and replace all the faulty apps/dll etc


IF nothing solves ur problem then final remidy....Clean format ur Partiton and reinstall XP/98 .....

@Saro - I cant format cos I downloaded lots of stuff from P2P and etc... Is it ok to reinstall the OS without a format. BTW Avast doesnt work as I mentioned in the post.

I am trying Nod and Couter Spy now, will let ya know what happens........

Did the scan and counter spy, it did find dirt and cleaned it but still the same problem persists. BTW the OS is Win98 SE

Dude then reinstall and see if anything is fishy in the startup of Win98 I have a great time with 98 but XP gives me chills sometime. With 98 just reinstall u'll be ok.

well this all seeems the problem of many corrupt files caused either to to improper shutdown or and any comp infection

try to repair the windows xp installtion ...nothing happens....

then the best would be to reinstall the whole OS

Ok ..move ur imp data to other partition...if not possible..move them away from these 3 folders

x:\windows
x:\program files
x:\my documents

now boot thru floppy..then delete these 3 folders (remember you will have to Delete Each n every file seprately inside all 3 folders)
also delete other files like autoexec.bat etc

and now install OS again

OR

Upgrade to Xp...its really good OS..and if u Couple it with SP2 nothing like it...

....hope it solves ur problem....

Looks like a H/W problem..........

Check your RAM with Memtest.......
Search for that free proggy............
