Have you changed the position of the monitor lately ? check the vicinity for any mag field generator like stabaliser CVT UPS Speaker also check the VGA cable unplug and tighten it reroute it if possible the shadow thing will dissapear. This occurs mainly when the vga signal is not able to maintain its edges also as a final resote try reducing the monitor refresh rate to say 70Hz and see the diffrence.
