HDD - WD blue or Seagate barracuda 1 TB
Cabinet- NZXT Gamma

FX 8350/i5 3470- Rs 11400/Rs 11200
M5A97 Evo R2.0 /M5A97 R2.0/ GA-H77-DS3H- Rs 6900 / 6100 / 7100 ( Since you wont overclock you wont go wrong with either M5A97)
G.Skill Ripjaws 1600Mhz C9 4GB - Rs 1800
Toshiba 1 TB - 3500
NZXT Gamma - Rs 2500
GTX 660 / HD7870 - Rs 14900 / 16500

Total - Rs 40,200 with GTX 660

Since you will only be Gaming and wont overclock either IMO you should go with Intel

If the rig is for just gaming and you aren't interested in overclocking, then an i5 3xxx makes more sense.

i5 3550 (12000)
Gigabyte B75M DH3 (4000)
Corsair Value Select 1600MHz 4GB (1900)
Corsair GS500 (4000)
WD Blue 1TB (3900)
Sapphire HD7870 2GB GHz edition (16000)
NZXT Gamma (2500)

total: 44300

your PSU will not be sufficient.

I5 3470
Gigabyte GAB75M
GSKILL RipJAWSx 4 GB x2
NZXT Gamma
Sapphire HD 7870 2 GB
WD Caviar Blue 1 TB

Total 46K.

How old is your VX450? It was a very very good PSU,made by Seasonic, carried 5 years warranty,in its hey days, mindblowing, anyday better than these GS series from Corsair. You are safe with that Enthusisast class PSU.

Had bought it in 2008. Ya,was highly recommended then & is still working nicely on my system (CPU-Core2duo, Mobo - Asus P5BVM, Graphics card - 8800GT). But since it is quite old, would prefer going for a new PSU. Which one would you recommend if not the GS series?

Thanks..so i5 it is. But which one would u suggest?? 3470, 3550 or 3570K (cost??) don't mind spending a little more on CPU if performance is appreciably better.

Also alongwith i5, which mobo should I go for considering I won't be overclocking...the cheaper one - Gigabyte B75M DH3 or M5A97 Evo R2.0 /M5A97 R2.0/ GA-H77-DS3H. Am confused...

For graphics, any reason why HD7870 instead of HD7850...could save 3k otherwise..

It is okay for a non overclocked GPU, but may not be enough or will be operating at it's limit if the gpu is overclocked. The config I suggested needs a 410W PSU acc. to extremevision calc.

Guys, need ur advice on this

> If you aren't overclocking, then i5 3550 is best.

> You should go for Gigabyte B75M dh3; very good mobo with nice feature set. Asus M5a97 evo r2.0 is an AMD motherboard.

> performance diff between 7850 and 7870 is considerable for the price difference.

i5 3470- Rs 11200
GA-H77-DS3H- Rs 7100 ( should be less in stores by Rs 400IMO)
G.Skill Ripjaws 1600Mhz C9 4GB - Rs 1800
Toshiba 1 TB - 3500
NZXT Gamma - Rs 2500
GTX 660 / HD7870 - Rs 14900 / 16500
PSU - Seasonic S12II 520 - Rs 4300

Skip B75 based mainboard which has reduced feature set and is a mATX,better to stick to a full size H77 ATX board with the i5 with more expansion slots which will allow you at add a sound card or Ethernet card in case the onboard one fails. The B75 lacks even the most basic functions such as RAid support and SSD caching! The full size Gigabyte H77 has better VRM too. The Seasonic PSU is better than the Corsair GS anyday with 87% efficiency.

If you are not getting the HD7870,try and accomodate the GTX660 atleast.

Are those features needed in a 40k rig?

There are already a couple of configs suggested. Rather than just posting a new config, it would be better and more helpful to point out the flaws on the previously posted configs and the reason of any change in component(s) if any.

Are those features needed in a 40k rig?

Its not about "RsXX,000" rig,its not about money ,but quality and very basic feature set and better components in VRM ,which is very important as the i3 works at 55W and the i5 works at 77W, so thats 22 watts more. It is this very reason that I dont advise a B75 with an i5. As he has the budget it dosnt make sense to cheap out on the most important part of the computer, the foundation, the motherboard.

Rs 40K is a lot of money for a rig without a monitor.
