What are the best methods of receiving payment from clients who live in a different town/ city from yours?
How safe is sharing my bank account number, so that they can deposit the amount at the bank's branch nearest to them?

Electronic transfer, cash depisite in your account, money transfer though services like Western Union and Indian Post, checks. Electronic transfer is the fastest and easiest method.

you will also need to share Bank IFSC Code to them.

and NEFT is best option here.
if u want same time transaction use RTGS (but that is a bit costly than NEFT)
