Mcafee antivirus & IE8 error

Hi,

My friend had bought a HP PC 1 1/2 yrs back. He had got a Mcafee total securityfree with it for 3 yrs. At that time he had already running Avast Pro version and did'nt used it. But now when he installed the antivirus, it got activated but the problem is the software is the old one compaired to their new total security.

Is there any way to upgrade it ?

Secondly, I am using IE8 and everytime I log in to hotmail or gmail etc it says that the security certificate is invalid and when i install the certificate, it still shows the error. Pls tell a way to get rid of this certificate error?

My internet settings are now on low (option).

Doesn't McAfee allows to upgrade their product based on same old key??

I'm not sure, KIS surely allows that. So thought of McAfee may also allow it. So ask him to download the new version and use the same key to activate it.

Is the problem only for IE?? Do you get similar error message on other browsers like firefox, chrome

Make sure your computer date is correct.

Mcafee is automatically activated and there is no activation code / license key. When we install the CD (having Mcafee security) it goes to DOS and installs it and when we check it for the key etc, it does'nt show us any info. rather says that it is fully activated by is a old version.

Reg. IE problem, this problem is occuring in every browser I use.

Don't know much about McAfee, but are you sure that it's not a cra*ked version of it?

^^ i guess not. he mentioned about (hp driver) cd. & so its an hp edited version for sure. it should have an builtin update option to update signature as well as program. BTW, McAfee is total $hit. won't recommend it even if it is free. get avast/avira along with comodo or let windows firewall do its job.

Don't use it, use Avira AntiVir Personal with Comodo Firewall.
or else as I always say go for Linux.

Download new version and use the same key or with the same version check for new updates.
If nothing works try any free version for your PC or purchase a new key for the new software.

^^ read again. no key. its a 1 whole package & preactivated. can't use any key. but i think a new version can be applied on top of the HP one so the PC retains the validity but the software core gets updated.

^^ that's possible as the software is already installed with a valid key thus the core files will be updated on running new version of setup.
