hi
i have recently added new maxtor 160GB hdd however my bios shows only 136GB ..so i installed patch from maxtor which enables 48bit addressing mode and safely(?) transfers data to HDD.and after intalling my XP started to recognise as 151GB hDD now here i need to ask that if is it a correct way to use my hdd with this small software from maxtor...bcoz my assembler told me that if u use your hdd as is then it may develope bad sectors as my mobo doesnot support this much large capacity.

Also i am only using..as of now 50GB of 151 gb in two partitions..and rest is unformatted space...is it safe?
or should i format remaing space also eventhough asof now i dont need it..
thanx

i think my BIOS version is old...my mobo is 2002 manufacture..so it supports only 136GB i guess
but is it safe is the MAIN question

There is nothing wrong with unformatted space.
But it's better you format them.
The OS utilities try to fix the problems
in the formatted region only!!
