Mainstream PC 25k-35k, only essential components needed

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: In order of priority/amount of usage:
Browsing (Many many tabs at once and sometimes in more than one browser at the same time)
Download managers and Torrent clients running almost 24x7
Microsoft Office Apps (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), Adobe Acrobat
Playing Music (sometimes)
Photoshop, Video Conversion (sometimes)

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 25 - 35k

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Most probably not.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 8.1 and later.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: Already have a 120 GB SSD (Samsung 840 EVO)

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Will use my already owned hdtv. Sony LED 46 inch, Full HD (1080)

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:
Hard Disks and SSD
Keyboard & Mouse (Already have logitech K330 wireless combo)
Optical Drive
Graphics Card (Not gonna use pc for gaming much), will add GFX card later if need arise.
Monitor

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Within 1-2 months

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: This will be my first time. I will try to do it myself if possible, if not will get an assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Alwar (Rajasthan) Will buy from whichever is the better option in terms of price and reliability.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: This system will be running always on (because of downloading). So i want it to be power efficient/saving. For this reason i am ready to invest more in psu (80 plus gold).
I dont want overheating of pc components or the pc producing too much heat for too long so please keep this in mind. Also i want the PC to be as silent as possible.
Also i want it to be as much future proof as possible in this budget and requirements...

Update: Motherboard must have HDMI port (for connecting with HDTV). Want the desktop to be WiFi capable too...

There is no sense in staring a thread 1-2 months before the purchase. Start a thread just one week before you intend to make the purchase. Prices change and new products are launched making such early suggestions irrelevant.

Sorry for the misunderstanding but i meant within (not after) 1-2 months, that means i can get it in even 10 days or 20 days, like that. And this time includes the time that will be taken in shipping and assembling, because i think all the parts will not be available locally in my city. I usually plan and research a lot before buying anything, thats why i have started this thread so early. Thanks...

Thanks adityak469, i have some concerns. This mobo does not have HDMI port (sorry, i forgot to mention) which is must for me as i am gonna use HDMI cable to connect PC to TV.
The config suggested by you totals up to 20.6k only while i can afford upto 35k. Do u think that a configuration better than this will be overkill for my requirements? Should i not get at least better quality (if not higher specs) components of similar specs?
Since i want to save power i think i should get a 80 plus gold certified psu.

This is the config i am thinking of:
Intel Core i3-4150 - 7,500
Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H - 5,800
Seasonic SSR-550RT S12G Series 550W - 6,200
Kingston HyperX Blu DDR3 4 GB 1600 MHz - 2,700
Total - 22.2
Not sure about cabinet yet.

You are spending more on that PSU than you would on electricity bill for a year for the PC. 80 Plus Gold certification won't do wonders with your electricity bill. Your config hardly consumes ~150 W at max. Stick with Bronze PSUs.

Get Antec P450P and any local cabinet. Other components as you have suggested. So final config will be -

Intel Core i3-4150 (7500)
Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H (5300)
Kingston HyperX Blu DDR3 4 GB 1600 MHz (2600)
Antec VP450P (2700)
local cabinet (1000)
Total - 19.1k

This is more than enough for your needs.

Please suggest a branded cabinet. I think for future proofing (i may add a graphics card in future) its better to buy a good cabinet. What do u say? Also what about cooling fans in cabinet?

you wont need mcuh fans for this rig. if you want something good looking, get Deepcool Tesseract ;)

> The cheapest branded cabinet available is Cooler Master Elite 311; something I consider not worth of it's price. Moreover, anything up to a GTX 750ti can fit in a local cabinet perfectly without any major cooling problem.

> All cabinets have two fan slots. you can always fit an extra fan in any available grill. I'd say get a local cabinet if you intend to get any card costing less then 10k.

Then please suggest something which is value for money, it may be costlier. I prefer functionality/features and performance over looks...

consider deepcool tesseract/betfenix merc alpha. cabinet is not something which you upgrade every 1 or 2 years. so i suggest to get a good one having proper air flow and maximum cooling options.

What should i do to make the desktop capable of connecting through WiFi to my home router/modem?

Hi norepinephrine,

I would like to add a word to help in build of PC.Here are some options for you.

CPU: Intel Core i3-4150 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor.
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Extreme6/ac ATX LGA1150 Motherboard.
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory.
Storage: Western Digital Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive.

In build, MOBO is the support of SLI and CrossFire technology and Inbuilt Wifi module, that means in the future, you can add-on a GPU card for performance, and no need to buy a new Wifi card for the network. In simple terms, it will cover all yours basic requirements like Wifi, HDMI connection and etc. The latest version of MOBO will help you for future proof rig.

Hope it helps.

ya but he can change to 5th gen cpu , imo one can easily upgrade from and 4th gen i3 to 5 th gen i5 with that motherboard in future.....................

but still motherboard cost is a little high , and go for z97 board only if u are planning to buy oceable cpu after some time ...........

else go with h97, b85 are vfm mobo but not enough futureproof...............

- - - Updated - - -

p.s dnt worry worry about the wifi onboard , one can easily buy usb wifi card are add pci wifi card later............

Why so many threads for the same purpose?

*www.digit.in/forum/pc-components-c...gskill-rj-corsair-ven-kingston-hyper-x-2.html

Avoid that in future and stick to a single thread.
