lost adminstrative user id password ?

my bro in law have hp lapto with genuine xpsp2..usully i always saw his name as sbp on login screen, but yesterday i installed one autpatch and now lapto asking me user id and password.......all mess i did.......
is there any way to recover user id pw with the help of any softy or bootable cd.......

pls answer me......

even i tried to use safe mode or restore point....but for this too no entry without Admins user id password

Try username as administrator and leave password field blank.
If it works then it'll let u login as administrator and then in user accounts u can change the password...
