login profile problem with xp..

hi , i hav installed xp pr- in [d:] and winme in [C:] . sometimes when i start in xp it shows that 'cannot load ur profile it may be corrupt and u r using temp profile which will lost after restart'
i hav faced this problem about 5-6 times before.Where all my settings r lost (themes,desktop icons,sound drivers,quicklaunch ,windowblinds etc.)and i hav to load them again n again.just waste of time.
plz tell why this problem come? plz note that i hav disabled system restore in all drives in xp Now can i load/restore my previous profile again?? is it possible.
plz also tell the cause of this error so that i could be aware of it next time

Boot up with windows xp boot cd and try to repair the installation.. may be it will work out 4 u.
