i want good build quality as i wont buy a new one every two years. i have shortlisted these -

Hp dv6 6121tx - HP Pavilion DV6 Series DV6-6121TX Laptop: Flipkart.com: Compare, Review HP Notebook
Hp dv4 3015tx - HP Pavilion DV4 Series DV4-3015TX Laptop: Flipkart.com: Compare, Review HP Notebook
Asus k53sv - Asus K Series K53SV-SX562V Laptop: Flipkart.com: Compare, Review Asus Notebook
Lenovo ideapad y570 - Lenovo - Affordable Laptops - Y Series by Lenovo | India(IN)
Sony vaio cb 15 - Sony VAIO C Series VPCCB15FG Laptop: Flipkart.com: Compare, Review Sony Notebook

I will buy it next week. And i'm confused as hell. Everyone has got its share of problems.

I love the dv6 and dv4 but they have this problem of the logo's light on the lid bleeding through the screen when the screen goes off to save power. Not sure if the dv4 has this problem.

The vaio has got a great screen. But crap gfx card. The 6630m is less powerful than the gt540m.

The lenovo has good build quality but again less powerfull gfx card.

The asus seems the best overall. With good config and build quality. But will the gt 540 be enough for 768p gaming at medium settings for at least 2 years?

The dv6 has the 6770m which is great but i will have to open the screen and cut of the wires for the led logo myself. Do you guys think that i should do this?

Please help.

Ok. I'll stop about the bleeding. Anyways, now as the new models are coming can the older dv6's in stock be got for less money?

nopes...they are discontinuing the product so hp will not supply it any more..

no supply, high demand -> higher prices. :D

btw it depends on how much u can bargain with them..and also on if they have the model with them... :p

This is a very old model. Why would someone buy an i7-720 and ATI 5650 when much better options are available?

out of all those you mentioned, Vaio is the most balanced one. And its gfx is not that crappy as you said. It will run your games at reso n setting you desire for.(720p)

every lappi has some pros n cons.

BTW lenovo y570 has gt555 gfx, do you think its "less powerful gfx" ? :-? then you can only be satisfied with HP (6770)

Only the screen is better in the Vaio. The best option out of all would be the Lenovo Y570. Better processor, better GPU (Nvidia GT555M is almost same as the ATI 6770M on HP), and more RAM.

^^I was not saying performance wise. Vaio has got a brilliant 1080p screen, backlit keyboard. Although GPU should've been powerful. :( I agree lenovo would be the ideal one if performance is kept in mind.

That lenovo doesnt have 555m its a faster 550m and 550m has 96 shaders and 555m has 144.

So the lenovo y560's gaming performance will be equal to the asus, almost. And the asus gives me a quad, +ram, +hdd space, at 2k more. Thats why i am considering the asus. And the asus k53 also has an i5 + gt 540m version at 40k so can be buying that also.

Do you think hp will release the new dv4's and dv6's soon? Will the older ones be available for reasonable prices? How much will they go up, if they do?

And wont playing at resolutions other than the native one deteriorate image quality? Can i play at 768p on the vaio's 1080p screen and still almost retain the monitors quality at its native resolution?

I have been told by the local dealer that y570 has 555m :-? anyways, asus is also bang for buck.

Actually, funda is, that on a laptop, games runs best at its so called "native resolution". I guess the vaio's native reso is 1080p. But if you're gonna game at that much higher reso, you will have to make sure that eye candies have to be kept at min. I cant say exactly about 6630 (which vaio has), but yeah, i can say about 5650. 6630 is actually advanced version of 5650, +10% to performance. I played Crysis 2 on 5650 (fst gen i5 procy), and i found gameplay was decent at i guess some 30 fps or so. So, 6630 would perform better than it. It all depends how much you desire to max the setting of your game.

No i know that 1080p res gaming requires a good card. What i wanted to know was whether lowering the res below 1080p on the vaio make the screen look washed out or pale or something like that. Will the down-scaling by the lcd from 1080p to 768p be good?

Well to be frank, i'm not sure about it. But i can tell you in some days, as i'm also buying same vaio in a few days :) But i think it won't differ much, though crispness would decrease for sure, but performance would be near about same.

Games will look more crisp at 1080p than 768p on Vaio. But There wont be any major issues while running games at 768p on Vaio as compared to running the same on a 768p screen. 6630 is a weak GPU for 1080p gaming, even 6770 is unable to handle some games like crysis 2 at 1080p. Having said that Vaio' screen is the best. If gaming isnt your primary priority go for it

The 6630m in vaio can easily be overclocked to to get high performance in games. Check the below video where user has overclocked it.

6630m is basically a lower clocked/ low power version of 6650m. Sony has got this history of incorporating lower clocked gfx cards to provide stability to system in cost of performance. I guess clocking 6630 would be easily, plus no heating issues should be there either.
