Hello & welcome to the forums,
First & foremost have you got the right cable, which should be UTP CAT 5 cable?.Make sure workgroup is the same on both computers.
Have you shared any resources? i.e files/folders?
You can do that by right clicking a file/folder & viewing its properties, then access the sharing tab & fill in the appropriate details.
Just for the record disable firewalls if any.
For lan games you need to configure in the game settings, which game are you trying for?

well first assign them ips like 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 and try pinging each other to make sure the connection of the cable is done in the rite way

for games, they have inbuilt settings which can be configured
